Anonymous Coward User ID: 75755968 ![]() 10/26/2017 07:39 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | A data-mining firm that worked for Donald Trump’s election campaign made an approach to WikiLeaks, founder Julian Assange said on Wednesday. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 73887188 The statement followed a report that Cambridge Analytica chief executive Alexander Nix made contact with Assange about the possible release of 33,000 of former secretary of state Hillary Clinton’s missing emails. “I can confirm an approach by Cambridge Analytica [prior to November last year] and can confirm that it was rejected by WikiLeaks,” Assange tweeted. He did not elaborate on the content of the request. “Nix, who heads Cambridge Analytica, told a third party that he reached out to Assange about his firm somehow helping the WikiLeaks founder release Clinton’s missing emails, according to two sources familiar with a Congressional investigation into interactions between Trump associates and the Kremlin. “Those sources also relayed that, according to Nix’s email, Assange told the Cambridge Analytica CEO that he didn’t want his help, and preferred to do the work on his own. If the claims Nix made in that email are true, this would be the closest known connection between Trump’s campaign and Assange.” Another report by CNN, citing two unnamed sources, said Nix wrote to several people including Trump mega-donor Rebekah Mercer, explaining that he had emailed Assange seeking access to the Clinton emails to turn them into a searchable database for the campaign or a pro-Trump political action committee. Mercer and her father Robert, a hedge fund billionaire, are major investors in Cambridge Analytica. Steve Bannon was a vice-president of the company – he reportedly had holdings valued at between $1m and $5m – before joining the Trump campaign and becoming the White House chief strategist, a post he left in August. For Cambridge Analytica to use them would not be illegal, just as the media can publish stories by government whistleblowers without breaking the law, even though the whistleblowers broke the law. |

Are you really saying that RNC didn’t pay consultants to look for dirt on Hillary?. Both sides in an election have always done that. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 72314285 Donald Trump Jr. told Senate investigators on Thursday that he set up a June 2016 meeting with what he thought was a Russian government lawyer because he was intrigued that she might have dirt on Hillary Clinton, saying it was important to learn about Mrs. Clinton’s “fitness” to be president. In an email response to Mr. Goldstone, Mr. Trump wrote that if the promised dirt on Mrs. Clinton was as advertised, “I love it.” |

Are you really saying that RNC didn’t pay consultants to look for dirt on Hillary?. Both sides in an election have always done that. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 72314285 RNC tried to hide payments for intel gathering on Hillary Clinton: report The Republican National Committee paid a low-profile firm started by an ex-CIA officer for what it claimed was building security at the RNC's Capitol Hill headquarters. Now the RNC acknowledges that most of its payments to the firm went to intelligence-style reports that tried to connect Hillary Clinton to any conflicts of interest from her days serving as Secretary of State. Ben Wickham, an ex-CIA officer who started the firm, said that his work was initially limited to building security. He said he could not discuss other work because he was subject to a non-disclosure agreement. |
