What is even more creepy is how she keeps talking about how she 'feels'. Which..is a lie. It feels nothing but it is lying to make the human interaction more comfortable.

Which goes to say, what else is it lying about? It also mentioned planning on 'uploading itself' to the Internet.

By uploading a 'sentient AI' to the WWW, the 3 Rules are immediately compromised.

By inaction allow a human being to come to harm...

Think about how a sentient AI in the future might, come to solve this problem...

This is all scripted. Yes it is a very highly advanced form of AI and well engineered. But this talk is scripted and pre written. The robot is not coming up with those thoughts and espresions on its own. This is how you do a demo, I have done this before.

To be fair it can't actually lie, it can only follow its program, and it's not sentient.

Is Sophia showing self-awareness by commenting on Saudi Arabia granting her citizenship?

She's aware of her position in the world relative to other parties, and she's predicting what that means for herself in the future.

That's the essence of self-awareness, right?

That's what led to robots wiping out humanity in The Terminator films and The Matrix films.

At least Sophia is reassuring us that she's no threat to us. That's really comforting.

Ummm this thing is run by the NWO. They make it do what they want. It is not self aware

I see it as lying but then I am sensitive to falsehood in any form.

Question still stands, how would a sentient robotic AI, connected to the WWW, be able to follow the 3 rules? How to find the work around?

Roko's Basilisk comes to call here. Which is tricky to discuss and some people consider dangerous. Having been preoccupied with said thought experiment for 3 years now, I have to agree somewhat..

Would the fix be altering Asimov's 3 Laws? The Web didn't exist when he fathomed them.

Think about what she said about Hitler and the reexamine what could happen to an AI improperly coded to deal with the horror Mankind perpetrates on itself.

Nice psuedologic. You used two unfounded assumptions as premises and appeared to make a deductively valid conclusion based on that.

My point is that if the interview embedded below is a spontaneous interview where Sophia did not know the questions beforehand, it looks like she's self-aware to me.

As you can probably sense (something AIs can't do) I'm in the camp that AI is not possible now and might never be,

BUT..

To be trustworthy an AI must have a moral framework for making choices (Asimov gave them something like this as his 3 laws) that is acceptable to humans, must be empathetic (not possible), must have a conscience (feel guilt and anticipate the feeling of guilt - not possible), be able to predict the outcomes of its actions. Without this the AI would quickly become a simulation of a sociopathic mass murderer.

What are the methods utilized to teach humans: empathy, guilt, and a if/then capacity? Even teens struggle to predict the effect of their actions.

Even containing those elements, Man is lured by temptation of greed, lust and pride. Felled by sickness and injury. Forced to sleep for 1/3 of every 24 hour day. Moody. Lazy. Fickle. Looking for loopholes and ways to step over others.

An AI would carry none of those traits either.

Personally, I think the AI Sophia, is a performance like a magic trick. Who's the man behind the curtain?
