Message Subject why the police won't help you when you're getting stabbed

That really doesn't tell us WHY they won't help. Just that they didn't in one case.

In the main, they won't help you when you are attacked for the simple reason that people generally don't attack others right in front of the police.

You are on your own that way. Always.

Be ready for that.

It does tell you why if you watched to the end. The judge said the police have no duty to protect individuals.

That is the whole point of the video.

Sorry, but not having a duty to do something is different than not doing it.

For instance, I don't have a duty, at all, to give money to the poor. I do it anyway.

They don't have a duty to protect civilians (they don't? That's new, isn't it?) but most police would have tried anyway. Why these didn't... I do not know. I suspect cowardice, but can't prove that.

(Yes, I didn't watch the link. I still haven't, having caught the subject at the time it happened. What I said still holds, unless there is more than you mentioned?)

Again, the point is that police have no duty to protect INDIVIDUALS.

Many people think they do. They don't. And yes not having a duty doesn't mean that some won't take action.

Some will, some won't.

Just like all other people, some are corrupt, some aren't. And on and on.

This wasn't meant to be a cop bashing post. Cops are merely human. Some are brave, some aren't.

For the last time this was meant for the people who genuinely think that police are there to protect them.

Butler... You and I disagree on many points. (Over the years, this has become evident).

But I don't know much about this case. You put together a few poignant angles and , judging ONLY by your supporting posted links, THESE GUYS DID NOT DO THEIR JOB.

Right... The courts ruled that they had no duty to protect but, in the light you have cast they had every opportunity to protect.

Seems like bullshit to me. (The action of the two transit authority cops) In the reading (and watching of the video that seems to detail what I have read) what you have here are two pussy cops that were put in service to detect and locate the bad guy in question. Once they saw him, they were too afraid to engage. (Until the threat was within their capabilities)

THIS does not define those of us who prowl the night willing to protect YOU.

It is yet another example of poor training and poor selection. I've seen it myself over the years and, (during my tenure) flushed out many of those who were not really "in it to win it"

I'm a bit conflicted in this reply only because I know the truth about the forces that others rely on and I agree with you in part.

Every person needs to learn to protect themselves. No one should COUNT ON others coming to save your ass. However. When the chips are down and all else has failed you should KNOW, there are those of us who do have a sense of responsibility and who WILL do the best that they can, even stepping in harm's way, to protect you.

I've seen all sides of this type of incident. I have trained over 1500 cops in the Northern Bay Area. (In the last 12 years)

I have seen the impotence. I have seen the resolve. What you have posted shows only impotence. It's not entirely like that.
