I've had 7 computers since 1996, NOT including laptops & androids of various makes & models. I am merely stating personal experience facts which you disapprove of. Eff Off |

I THINK I'M RIGHT Op, I agree you should never update, all updates are backdoors. Make sure you do not use Chrome, google is spying on you, I would recommend you use Java version 1.6 or older, an older copy of Flash player and Adobe reader at least before version 9. Any of the newer apps all have spyware, the old ones are safer. Do not ever think about updating windows beyond XP, its full of NSA backdoors. |

I THINK I'M RIGHT Holeeeey Kau! My brother sold me his 1st computer in 1996 when he upgraded to a more powerful one. The one he sold me already had Windows 95 installed and he informed me of the importance of 'cleaning' the computer & performing regular updates. I noticed weird things like the computer crashing, etc., whenever I would do Windows "updates" and noticed weird things happening on my comp whenever I would visit 'Conspiracy Theory Websites' such as GLP, even back then! After awhile, I decided to just NOT do updates to see what would happen. My comp ran fine, the only thing that didn't happen were the crashes, etc. I told my brother and he said, "NOOOOO, YOU HAVE TO UPDATE YOUR COMPUTER!!!" and I responded with, "I THINK UPDATES ARE SPYWARE!!!" Quoting: WAKE UP TO REALITY 75788506 For years, we argued the point back and forth. My comps have all ran fine and i NEVER, EVER DO UPDATES! After 0bama was in the W.H. & the whole spygate thing came out, I felt vindicated. I still believe I am correct. What has been your experience? Curious ![]() |

I THINK I'M RIGHT ![]() Updates are important because of buggy software which is constantly online and always under threat of exploitation. You can't program a 10 megabyte executable file without having bugs let alone a gigabyte OS. Back before Windows 95B you could get floppy disks with viruses which needed Fprotect. Nowadays with the internet always on we need to be more vigilant about our online safety than ever before. People who don't update their software are begging for their banking details to be stolen. Even a buffer overrun by downloading and running code in a loop can render any browser to stop and crash a computer without an OS with a memory dump. Most of the time I'd say a slow computer/phone is caused by said buffer overruns resulting in tech support being irate. NowIhavetothinkofanameohnoithurts It's all bull! Nevertheless, the ruler is not truly wise who cannot discern evils before they develop themselves, and this is a faculty given to few. Niccolo Machiavelli Karma is funny, people who kick dogs usually get bitten. If someone doesn't add value to your life, then that someone shouldn't be a part of it. You can always trust people to do whatever is in their own interests. It is certain wastelands will be brought under cultivation. |

I have always ignored the updates message in the past with both computers and phones, I never wanted to get a smart phone and held out until my old Nokia died and there was not a single older phone I could use. What I find most interesting with the Samsung phone that I reluctantly bought is even though I ignore or push later for the updates the phone updates by itself usually at night, I find this most annoying as I almost feel it is against my will! Lol! Get rid of anti virus and just be careful what you download, your computer will never run better. |

Instead of putting the spyware into the software on day one, they put it in the updates, that way only some pc's have spyware instead of all of them. Rube Goldberg anyone? I THINK I'M RIGHT Going to come right out and say OP is an idiot. Just realize you should have no expectation of privacy and move on (this applies to the internet, and just about everything else in life). At this point, there are close to zero websites you can access by being on Windows XP (name a modern browser that has support for XP). Yes, companies spy on you, the government spies on you. While I don't condone the behavior, what effect does it really have on you? Do the world a favor, upgrade to Windows 10, don't run antivirus software other than the built in Windows Defender. Use Chrome and Google search. Use a proxy server if you want, but realize it doesn't make any real difference. Any company or organization that tells you otherwise is just trying to sell a product.
