Man commits suicide when he can no longer keep up with the $240,000 / year child support payments
Cary Man Committed Suicide In McHenry Jail Cell: Source

He was facing immense child support payments which he could no longer afford, according to the source.

Nov 22, 2017

The Cary man who was found unresponsive in his McHenry County Jail cell Friday, Nov. 17, committed suicide amid overwhelming financial stress caused by court-ordered child support payments, according to a source close to the family. Thomas Doheny, 51, of Cary, was found by jail staff in his single-occupancy cell at about 8:10 p.m. Friday.

Formerly quite wealthy, Doheny was working to reduce the $20,000 monthly child support payments to his ex-wife, which he could not afford, according to the source.

"He doesn't make that kind of money. He did five years ago, but his situation has changed,"

Re: Man commits suicide when he can no longer keep up with the $240,000 / year child support payments
The source claims that Judge Michael Coppedge, who presided over the case, failed to consider the information provided by Doheny and made it impossible for him to afford child support payments.

Doheny was fired from his job as the result of having to make 260 court appearances in the last two years in attempts to lower the payments.

The source said his company hired an attorney to keep up with all of the subpoenas his ex-wife sent.

4 kids, but @$20,000 a month, you’d guess he had 400 kids

This is the result of “alimony reform”. Alimony payouts have been reduced or eliminated, and the “alimony” is rolled into the child support.

Much like “welfare reform”, where total payouts for the year were reduced, and replaced with “Earned Income Credit” at tax time.

On another note, I hope that bitch rots in hell.

But for some reason I had just yesterday looked up and read again about sandyhook and the lanza's and Adams dad was paying his mom $240K a year in child support and alimony

So this guy must have been pulling down some Peter lanza (GE VP for tax or something) size coin.

Re: Man commits suicide when he can no longer keep up with the $240,000 / year child support payments
I have a family member that is living in his old car outside of town, car no longer runs. He has been able to keep his job but is making a lot less now than when he divorced. His support payments are now over 90% of his income, he has been unsuccessful in attempts to get it lowered, has sold everything be owned, gone through all savings and is essentially homeless and hopeless now.

It's an incredibly unfair system, with far too slow of a process. Lives change, income changes.

I wouldn't be surprised if this person also commits suicide ultimately as well. He is too damned proud to ask anyone for help, and doesn't want to be seen as a bad father.

It's incredibly frustrating and sad to watch.

Oh really?

I’ll bet you ANYTHING this guy had at least a $1 million life insurance policy. Most states require life insurance while paying child support, and most states require the beneficiary to be the ex-wife, and most states require insurance companies to remove the clause about suicide as it pertains to minor children receiving support payments.

She and the kids will get the insurance check, without a doubt.

seriously... I read, right here on glp about a man with two dozen kids, who doesn't pay a dime of "support" - and isn't in jail

anyone who believes that he killed himself because he couldn't make his support payments is in just plain silly ... more than half of the divorced men with children, don't support them

His insurance policy probably covered them though. Most insurance policies have a suicide clause for the first 2-3 years of the policy, but after that, all bets are off.

this is not about supporting children, its about creating slaves and possible criminals to prosecute for the sake of profit.

If she did this to him after divorcing him, I wonder what she was like being married to.

Wonder who divorced who. Maybe he divorced her and she was vindictive enough to want to see him penniless.

Or maybe she divorced him if he had a girlfriend on the side and $20K/mo. was payback.
