Federal indictments are handed out by Federal Grand Juries. The Grand Jury was put in place to protect 'the people' from random federal charges being brought without cause by 'the government'.

Grand Juries indict almost ALL THE TIME.

The only evidence provided to a Grand Jury in a case is from the PROSECUTION.

There is NO DEFENSE presentation during Grand Jury trials.

Grand Juries do not find guilt or innocence.

Upon indictment, the case moves to a JURY TRIAL, where defense attorneys are then brought to bear against the prosecution, and it is there that guilt or innocence is determined.
