Because you can then watch it rise by 50%-100% within a year, and sell half, buy many mucho gold (or silver), rinse, repeat. Bitcoin is one method to achieve moar gold, as well as invest in the blockchain and other new developments that are coming. People confuse the fact that these coins are nothing but ponzi. They are in fact a way to implement a new type of system that bypasses some traditional means of storing and using money. When we complain about the financial system, what we are complaining about is the entrenched malicious nature of the financial institutions that take our money, lend it out to more people at one time than they should, and charge interest rates to do so. And the money they hold they pay nothing on (negative interest). Blockchain allows for more control, lower fees, and freedom from the blood sucking vampires (at least for now). Yes, the banks and other cartels will figure out how to integrate blockchain and coins into their mix (think Ripple, for example). But when enough people adopt blockchain tech and start using it for daily transactions, we will have a paridigm shift to new ways to store and use money. Yes, there are risks. Yes, there are scams. Yes there are ponzi schemes in some of the offerings. Overall though, many of the coins will survive and become useful tools to millions. Take a look at ETN/Electroneum - a cryptocurrency looking to get to the masses, and allow people all over the world to make money from their mobile phones, or transact. There are other coins like HEROToken, looking to help the unbanked throughout Asia. Other coins like Cobinhood, allowing people to trade without fees. More are more coming out daily. This is the gold rush in crypto. Get onboard or be left behind. And use some profits to buy physical if you are concerned. Plenty of time to divest as you make some money in crypto, learn, and see how the next gen of money is going to be implemented. |
