I do not recall hearing the term polar vortex growing up.

That dip seems crazy to me.

Man you guys are autistic. December is already known to be brutally cold this year and more snowy than normal. Same with February. January will be much dryer and colder than normal. Next week is the first true dose of winter air and that’s not gonna change. An Amplified Jetstream will park itself over the Western States starting in a few days all the way to days 16+. This will effect SoCal, all the way to Alaska, bringing dry/warmer Weather to the area blocking Winter storms from arriving. Meanwhile, the Midwest/East Coast will have several shots of Frigid Arctic air during this timeframe. This is a reminiscence of the Weather pattern that brought the drought here a couple years ago. Even the Arctic will be way warmer than average.

Here in Alaska we call it a Chinook Wind (A warm southerly wind) where the jet stream comes up from the gulf of Alaska, bringing warm winds.
The jet stream arches over the North Pole, bringing chills down on the mid West to East Coast with a blast of cold air..... WOOSH!
