I would recommend that you listen to those who have told you to take it slow and master calisthenics. Get push-ups, pull-ups,sit-ups and squats down initially and then supplement your training with Krav Maga (KM). I have studied KM for over five years and I can tell you that a good calisthenics program with KM will make a huge difference in your personal health! Cardio fitness is one thing, but in this day and age, fighting fitness is superior!!! Remember, muscle bulk is worthless! What makes the difference in the fray is martial art technique executed properly. Last but not least is spiritual development! Look to Jesus Christ and He will bring you to the greatest fitness of all and that is true spiritual fitness! I wish you well in your pursuits!!!
