Outlet crumbled when he pulled it out to look it over. Bingo! Crazy daisy-chain wiring throughout the place. One outlet replaced solved everything! |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 74975809 United States 12/09/2017 07:35 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I checked that also. Its really got me puzzled as to either bulb will work by itself but not when both are screwed in together. That's because the polarity is being reversed between the bulb connections. Probably a wire shorting out somewhere. Got a make/model of the fan? Usually a stamp somewhere. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 1285930 United States 12/09/2017 07:36 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Sorry, I mean does the fan turn on even when you have bulb problems? Have to tried turning fan on when two bulbs are in and you try to turn on? Bascially try turning fan on in every scensario, one bulb in and off, one bulb in and on....two bulbs in and off....two bulbs in and on etc. You probably already did, but just in case. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 75394950 I never looked at the wall switch. I will check that out tomorrow as well. I still don't understand why one bulb will work by itself in either socket. I would think its getting enough power but that's why I am here--i'm not a electrician! |

That should tell you a lot. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 75394950 This guy's right OP. First you need to learn how to read electricity. You do that with a tool called a voltmeter. Get the additional leads that are micro-clip on sort of thing, they are super handy. Test the voltage in each socket as described. Without having the right tool, you may as well be fumbling around with a wrench on some bolt. Of course there is a whole school of mechanics and power people who make it their hobby to do everything without a specialized tool, but in the case of electricity, you need to know how to know what's going on. We wouldn't need as many codes, in society, if the people were more able. |
