In Aus we use empty beer cans filled with lead.

I almost killed an attacker back in the late 80's that was charging me by throwing a full Mt. Dew can and hitting him dead between the eyes ;) This was in Daytona Beach Florida and I had my left hand in a cast and looked like an easy mugging on the beach.
