Congrats! Be wise and train, train, train...

I have a home in Tahoe and know that you'll be carrying in a variety of climates. Warm summer days to snowy winter nights. You need to build your muscle memory to deal with the variety of layers you may have, and the different environments you'll be in. Also, (I'm not sure it's applicable or not) make sure you discuss various scenarios and or situations with your family, (Spouse and kids), so they know how to act if you ever find yourself in a situation where you may need your weapon for defense.

I think the Glock is a good choice, But I prefer my rounds to pack just a tad more punch that a 9mm. (I carry either a Glock 22 or Wilson Combat Elite Professional daily)

I've had several Glocks over the years and find them to be a perfect answer to a very low maintenance high function weapon.

Be safe!

Good advice Travis. I have a sub compact Sig 229 in 40 but it tends to be a little trickier to carry unless I go with the shoulder holster setup. I carry the RIP 9mm ammo with the Shield to offset the lack of stopping power that the 40 has in comparison.
