Been thru 7 hurricanes... losing power is no biggy.

This happens often in parts of Canada. My folks had power out for 12 days.. which caused them to not have any running water as their well pump didn't work. They did use their wood burning stove, which was a good thing considering you want to prevent pipes from freezing. They used their BBQ to cook. They had extra water stored and a few solar panels that they used to keep their phones and lap top charged.

They now have a propane generator in case it happens again this year. They also have a French Press, as they hate instant coffee and didn't like being stuck with it the last winter storm. Lots of paper plates and tin foil, as you don't want to be dealing with having to heat up water to wash dishes.

And losing power is no biggy as long as it comes back!
So for the official list:
1 bottle of wine and a candle (per day)
Thing is if you had no power for 6 months you would need to store 183 bottles of wine!!!! And maybe a bit of food

Losing power when it is -30 Degrees Celsius is a biggy. Unfortunately it is common where we live, but when it happens the first time, you learn quick.

I don't see liquor on your list... that's a major oversight.

Socks. Lots and lots of dry socks. Trust me.

Some things that help when power is out and it is below 0.. Hotshot foot and hand warmers, dry shampoo, big tubs of Cristco can be used as a long lasting candle as well as for cooking. Having a portable loo and kitty litter is handy. When power is out and water is no longer running, you need some where to go.. Lots of paper plates and tin foil. Have a shit load more wood for burning, as you will go through lots trying to keep your home warm enough to not let your pipes burst... Camp stove to make quick cups of coffee/soup ect. Lots of candles and flashlights.. Using solar lights from outside work great for indoor lighting..

Well the list is purely about survival!
So I've officially added liqour to the list :)
And yes but I live off-grid on a boat!

Mylar emergency blanket material, large roll big enough to make an indoor tent and a sleeping bag.

flash lights, solar lights, candles, deck of cards, books, paper plates bowels towels etc, emergency cook stove with alt fuels, little jet stoves. I have cooked over candles many times, practice a bit so you are ready.

Wool blankets and socks, and warm clothing.

You will need to keep your water in your warmest space to keep it from freezing.

Drinking in an emergency situation will get you and others killed. Stupid thing to do.

Apart from drinking it you can burn it and it's a disinfectant!

When I would be way too cold I would hold a short candle under the covers in a coffee can with vents cut in and a rack on top to prevent the covers from falling in and burning. You do not want to sleep with it. I would also heat empty heavy pans over the candles and put on my cold feet and hands. I would also heat water for hot water bottles. \

Add hot water bottles to emergency list.

Heat large rocks next to a fire and stick them in your bed to stay warm all night. ALWAYS keep a fire burning.

If you must cook dry goods like beans, rice and pasta, crush them as small as possible and soak them as long as possible to reduce cooking time.
