This happens often in parts of Canada. My folks had power out for 12 days.. which caused them to not have any running water as their well pump didn't work. They did use their wood burning stove, which was a good thing considering you want to prevent pipes from freezing. They used their BBQ to cook. They had extra water stored and a few solar panels that they used to keep their phones and lap top charged.

They now have a propane generator in case it happens again this year. They also have a French Press, as they hate instant coffee and didn't like being stuck with it the last winter storm. Lots of paper plates and tin foil, as you don't want to be dealing with having to heat up water to wash dishes.
