Take the fossils and put them together with D.N.A and Bone Structure and you have your proof. Even though Crocodiles look a LOT like Lizards on the outside, the fossil record implies they are closer to birds than to lizards, and their bone structure in the skull and hips is far closer to birds than lizards. And finally, D.N.A backs both of those up, putting them closer to birds than lizards.
