Anybody take a genetic DNA test and shocked by the results? | |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 71503346 United States 01/07/2018 07:23 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Was always told I was German with some Irish. Quoting: Deplorable Azila_Again I'm not German at all. Predominantly Scandinavian, with Irish/Scottish as the second most prominent. No American Indian either, as I was also told. Big shocker for me. Anyone else do this? It depends on which test you took. For females, the results will only show the maternal genetics. If a male takes the test, he will get more in-depth results. I think there's three different tests a person can choose from, and each goes up in cost. But to get the most accurate results, you gotta have a male relative, like a brother will give greater results. |

Quoting: Deplorable Azila_Again Well, I'll take this other test from a different company. Always thought I was German. Maybe this other one will show it. It's not an exact science. It depends how they group the results. If they group northern germans together with scandinavians and southern germans together with the italians, that doesn't mean these guys aren't germans. We also have to remember the impact of wars. Not just the rapes that happened, but the re-drawing of national boundaries. I am 52% English and Irish, the remainder that could be identified was French, with a sprinkling of Iberian & Scandanavian ,--- I assume compliments of some Roman Centurion & some Viking raider. Look, thats a bunch of hogwash. They can barely tell you your race with it, but the DNA markers are very limited. To make these exact distiinctions within Europe is just not reliable. You, yourself said its a relatively new science. Wtf do you want here? Seriously? The real question is, do you even doodle Bro? |

If you are German, Ancestry will only say it's "western European", which could be German or French. Spanish / Portuguese comes out as "Iberian Peninsula". Italian and Greek are bunched together as one. The British Isles are separated as Great Britain, Scotland, and Ireland. Scandinavian could be any place in the northernmost part of Europe, and Finland is mixed with Russian. Asian could be Chinese, Japanese, Korean.... Strangely enough, they are more able to say what part of Africa a person is from, and they nail the different types of Native American, from Alaska all the way down to the bottom of South America, and the Caribbean. I found it to be right on, and they were also able to notify me that my two kids as well as my mother were first generation relatives, even though we all did them separately. Europeans migrated and mixed....a LOT....and let's not forget the Muslim invasion of Europe. The adopted kids who were never told they were adopted so they assumed they were something they weren't. The many Europeans from all countries who set up in Eastern Europe in German speaking communities in order to settle that area (donauschwaben). Nature favors diversity. If you think what your grandparents told you is correct, then go with that, if it makes you feel better. |

I know several Adoptees who were able to find biological relatives. My adopted sister found her biological mother after plus 40 years. Biological mother did not want to name father. Adopted sister and her son had already done Ancestry DNA test and the biological father matched as a close relative to her son but did not match her. If you are adopted female trying to find biological relatives if possible use your sons DNA / do two tests/ your and his as the male side of your DNA will only show up and match to another male. Adopted ppl think these DNA tests are the best thing ever. |

My father has been dead for over 22 years, and I had my mother do the test. I took out what she showed, and what was left, I figure came from my father, and it was right on. He was born in Serbia and had a lot of different Eastern and Northern European in him. My roommate never knew who her father was because her mother had her at 15 and her mother was a lying whore. So I bought the test for her. Turns out her real father was mostly Italian / Greek, so the father she was told was hers, wasn't.
