Re: Why do Catholics worship Mary?
It's adoration.

Catholics don't need to worship Mary.
They don't need to "worship" Jesus.
Jesus is FOLLOWED, not worshiped. Worshiping is for idols. Jesus is more than that.

Re: Why do Catholics worship Mary?
Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, to the mountain which Jesus had appointed for them.

When they saw Him, they worshiped Him; but some doubted.

And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.

"Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,

"teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age."
Amen.

Re: Why do Catholics worship Mary?
You all need to stop this bickering nonsense and join the Orthodox Church. It's the original churches founded by the apostles passed down unchanged.

The Roman Catholics went all SJW around 1000 AD and split. Then 500 years later, went even crazier when a crazy dude dumped a bucket of water on his head a proclaimed himself baptised, starting the heretical Protestants.

Leave all the bullshit behind a search out the true original unchanged faith. Everything in this thread that causes division is by definition from the devil.

Re: Why do Catholics worship Mary?
Mary is without doubt the finest of all women.

Can a woman be any more highly chosen?

Nevertheless, that doesn't mean Jesus wants us to pray to her or she has supernatural powers, or that the droning repetition of the Rosary compels The Almighty.

Catholics preach the Roman Catholic Church.

Christians preach Jesus Christ.

It is a nice tradition. I have my reservations, but I think on a secular level it's one way to have females fully committed to Christ in an age of feigned/impossible equality. She is the symbol of protectress of Christ.

Alas, the iconography of Mary w/ infant Jesus is literally an emulation of Osiris. Yes, there is occultism in Catholicism. But if you didn't know that I don't know what the hell to tell you.

Pray, hope, don't worry. Pray to Mary, Pray to the Great Architect, pray to John Baptist. Pray for peace and promote peace and thou shalt be anointed with holiness.

By your own words you'd label him the devil.
He doenst leave people in their sins, he frees you from them
He didn't leave people in the religion of earthly jerusalem, he led them out
He doesn't unite you to people in lies, he places you in truth

He takes you out of darkness
And puts you into light

Why is it that you call people the devil who bring you the truth?
That places you in the shoes of the pharisees calling Jesus demon possessed

Douay-Rheims Bible + Challoner Notes

[9] And call none your father upon earth; for one is your father, who is in heaven. [10] Neither be ye called masters; for one is your master, Christ.

**Challoner Note**

**[9] "Call none your father upon earth": Neither be ye called masters. The meaning is that our Father in heaven is incomparably more to be regarded, than any father upon earth: and no master to be followed, who would lead us away from Christ. But this does not hinder but that we are by the law of God to have a due respect both for our parents and spiritual fathers, (1 Cor. 4. 15) and for our masters and teachers.**

Re: Why do Catholics worship Mary?
You first need to understand the difference between worship and prayer. We "pray" to the Blessed Mother...
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 75857658

The issue of Catholics praying to saints is one that is full of confusion. It is the official position of the Roman Catholic Church that Catholics do not pray TO saints or Mary, but rather that Catholics can ask saints or Mary to pray FOR them. The official position of the Roman Catholic Church is that asking saints for their prayers is no different than asking someone here on earth to pray for us. However, the practice of many Catholics diverges from official Roman Catholic teaching. Many Catholics do in fact pray directly to saints and/or Mary, asking them for help ... instead of asking the saints and/or Mary to intercede with God for help. Whatever the case, whether a saint or Mary is being prayed to, or asked to pray, neither practice has any biblical basis.

The Bible nowhere instructs believers in Christ to pray to anyone other than God. The Bible nowhere encourages, or even mentions, believers asking individuals in heaven for their prayers. Why, then, do many Catholics pray to Mary and/or the saints, or request their prayers? Catholics view Mary and the saints as "intercessors" before God. They believe that a saint, who is glorified in Heaven, has more "direct access" to God than we do. Therefore, if a saint delivers a prayer to God, it is more effective than us praying to God directly. This concept is blatantly unbiblical. Hebrews 4:16 tells us to come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

First Timothy 2:5 declares, For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus. There is no one else that can mediate with God for us. If Jesus is the ONLY mediator, that indicates Mary and the saints cannot be mediators. They cannot mediate our prayer requests to God. Furthermore, the Bible tells us that Jesus Christ Himself is interceding for us before the Father: Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them (Hebrews 7:25). With Jesus Himself interceding for us, why would we need Mary or the saints to intercede for us? Whom would God listen to more closely than His Son? Romans 8:26-27 describes the Holy Spirit interceding for us. With the 2nd and 3rd members of the Trinity already interceding for us before the Father in heaven, what possible need could there be to have Mary or the saints interceding for us?

Catholics argue that praying to Mary and the saints is no different than asking someone here on earth to pray for us. Let us examine that claim:

1. The Apostle Paul asks other Christians to pray for him in Ephesians 6:19. Many Scriptures describe believers praying for one another (2 Corinthians 1:11; Ephesians 1:16; Philippians 1:19; 2 Timothy 1:3). The Bible nowhere mentions anyone asking for someone in heaven to pray for him. The Bible nowhere describes anyone in heaven praying for anyone on earth.

2. The Bible gives absolutely no indication that Mary or the saints can hear our prayers. Mary and the saints are not omniscient. Even glorified in heaven, they are still finite beings with limitations. How could they possibly hear the prayers of millions of people? Whenever the Bible mentions praying to or speaking with the dead, it is in the context of sorcery, witchcraft, necromancy, and divination .... activities the Bible strongly condemns (Leviticus 20:27; Deuteronomy 18:10-13). In the one instance when a "saint" is spoken to, Samuel in 1 Samuel 28:7-19, Samuel is not exactly happy to be disturbed. It is clear that praying to Mary or the saints is completely different from asking someone here on earth to pray for us. One has a strong biblical basis; the other has no biblical basis whatsoever.

Read carefully John 14:6 and then note 13; 15:15, and 16:23-24. See also Ephesians 3:12; Hebrews 4:14-16. The point is that men can only have access to God through faith in Christ and His substitutionary death (Christ died in our place and took upon Himself our sin. He bore our penalty). We can come to God only through Christ. He and He alone is the way, the truth, and the life. He gives us access to God.

Also remember ..... God does not answer prayers based on who is praying. God answers prayers based on whether they are asked according to His will (1 John 5:14-15). There is absolutely no basis or need to pray to anyone other than God alone. There is no basis for asking those who are in heaven to pray for us. Only God can hear our prayers. Only God can answer our prayers. No one in heaven has any greater access to God's throne than we do through prayer (Hebrews 4:16).
