That's what we're getting here this weekend. It's been in the 90's for days as it is. I'm already sick of summer. Although, I'm usually sick of it before it even starts. It appears this will be a long one though.

The highest heat index readings will impact the St. Louis metropolitan area. An Excessive Heat Warning is in effect through Monday where heat index readings will range from 105° to 109° for four straight days.

It's looking more likely we'll have another El Niño this season, weather service says
6/15/18

As recently as earlier this month, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration estimated a 75 percent chance that this year's Atlantic storm activity would be normal or even above normal.

But Kerry Emanuel, a professor of atmospheric science at MIT, told NBC News at the time that emergence of an El Niño could change that prediction.

"We know that that affects hurricanes," Emanuel said. "El Niño, in particular, suppresses Atlantic hurricanes."

But nothing comes without a cost. The climate center said the trade-off is that, at least in the southern half of the United States, the chances of severe winter weather usually increase.

Tornado recovery: Clean-up, condemnation, chamber aid and more
6/16/18

WILKES-BARRE TWP. — As he walked around the Arena Hub Plaza on Friday afternoon, Robert Tamburro was trying to put everything in perspective.

Tamburro, trustee and general partner of TFP Limited — owners of the Arena Hub Plaza — said many of his tenant businesses were severely damaged by Wednesday night’s EF2 tornado, which packed winds of up to 130 mph.

He owns the buildings that house Dick’s Sporting Goods, TJ Maxx, Barnes & Noble, Staples, PetSmart and Carter’s/Osh Kosh — none have been condemned, but all are currently listed as unsafe. He also owns office buildings nearby that incurred severe damage.

Re: The Weather Thread
Denver is part of Colorado's 'Tornado Alley'
6/15/18

There is even a Colorado "Tornado Alley".

When we get surface winds out of the southeast, leading into the Denver metro, those winds will interact with an elevated area of land between Denver and Colorado Springs, known as the Palmer Divide. As a result, favorable tornado conditions can develop quickly in that area and to the north of there. Meteorologists call it the Denver Convergence-Vorticity Zone, or DCVZ. About 60 percent of Colorado tornadoes form in that alley, which includes the east metro.

There is also weather feature called the Denver Cyclone, which often works in conjunction with the DCVZ but can also cause thunderstorms to become tornadic by itself.

The Denver metro sits down in sort of a 'land bowl', surrounded by higher terrain on all sides. Some studies show that south and south-easterly winds can get inside that bowl and start a clockwise or anti-cycloninc circulation. This pulls dry air off the mountains, that collides with the warm moist air coming up from the south.

National Weather Service Radar Tower Down
6/15/18

SPRINGFIELD -- The tower went out of commission just before storms hit Thursday night.

The National Weather Service in Springfield will be without radar for the next few days.

Just before last nights storms -- which brought hail through the Ozarks -- the radar went down as one of the gear joints broke in the tower.

The nearly 25-year-old tower is aging, and until it is fixed, the NWS has help on their side.

With their radar tower breaking down just before some severe weather came through, Meteorologist Mike Griffin with the National Weather Service says the NWS team was able to make it through last night, and Friday has gone smoothly as well.

"So far we haven't had much development with storms today, but we are lucky enough that we can dial in and look at our neighboring offices like Tulsa, Fort Smith radar, Kansas City radar, St. Louis, and Paducah. So, we look at those neighboring radars to get at least a little look at what's going on or what's developing over us in the Ozarks," says Griffin.

Figures it would be the one that services my region.
Luckily there is overlapping coverage, like they said. I use that radar network all the time, and would hate to be without coverage during some of these Ozark storms. Thursday night's storm were intense.

Rains Welcome for Teams Battling US Southwest Wildfires
6/16/18

DENVER —
Firefighters battling several unrelenting wildfires in the U.S. Southwest will likely get a reprieve thanks to heavy thunderstorms and widespread rains this weekend after facing yet another day of windy and dry weather on Friday.

But red flag warnings remained in effect overnight for southern Nevada, southern Utah and western Colorado, where wind gusts could reach 45 miles (72 km) an hour, the National Weather Service said.

Although the wet weather could help efforts to battle two dozen wildfires burning in the region, it could also cause flash floods, the National Weather Service added.

This satellite image from 7:40 am PDT shows how extensive clouds are in the SJ VLY and adjacent foothills. A robust onshore flow carried marine stratus well inland early this morning. Although most of these clouds will burn off by early afternoon, it will remain quite cool.
