Snowing here!

@JessicaKSDK

Anyone hear any thunder in North St. Louis County or near the Alton/Godfrey area? Radar picking up on a convective snow burst there! Let us know what you’re seeing. #stlwx #stormalert

NWS St. Louis
@NWSStLouis

Several calls to the office now about thunder being heard near Florissant. This band of snow has intensified, still moving southeast at around 25 mph. Expect very low visibility and a quick accumulation of around 1/2 inch as the band moves through. #stlwx

Well, the squall wasn't quite blizzard-like at my house, but the grass is covered and so are the cars. I'm well south of the area noted above, but I did hear the thunder - more than once. Was faint enough I questioned if that's what it was, until I saw this.

ETA: Video of the snow where the thunder was occurring:

I'll stop now. tounge

EDIT 2:
OMG blizzard-like here now with very gusty winds, blowing snow ( which had stopped, I thought it was over). Also think I just heard thunder! Woohoo!

Flash Flood in Jordan on November 09 2018 07:21 PM (UTC).

Jordan's state news agency says four people have been killed and hundreds of tourists visiting the kingdom's ancient city of Petra have been moved to higher ground after heavy rains caused flash floods in several locations. The Petra agency quoted government spokeswoman Jumana Ghunaimat as saying two dozen people were injured and dozens more evacuated as homes were flooded. Elsewhere, rising water levels forced the closure of a desert highway. ...

...

Friday's floods came two weeks after 21 people, including middle school students, were killed in flash floods near the Dead Sea. Jordan's tourism and education ministers resigned after the incident.

It was definitely odd. At least in the sense that it was so short-lived.

We ended up tying the record low overnight/early this morning - got down to 18! Could be an interesting winter if this is any indication.

National Hurricane Center
@NHC_Atlantic

#Hurricane season isn't over yet! A disturbance east of the Lesser Antilles has a low chance of forming into a tropical or subtropical cyclone over the SW Atlantic Ocean during the middle part of next week.

[link to twitter.com (secure)]

Here’s a reminder that hurricane season isn’t quite over: New storm brewing in Atlantic

The National Hurricane Center has plopped an “X” on the map and a cone that shows a disturbance out in the Atlantic that, if you extrapolate the cone way, way outward, takes it on a path toward Florida.

“Development of this system is not expected during the next couple of days due to unfavorable environmental conditions. However, some subtropical or tropical development is possible around the middle of next week when the system moves near or to the north of the Greater Antilles.”

Landslide in Brazil on November 11 2018 04:01 AM (UTC).

Heavy rains caused an early morning mudslide Saturday near Rio de Janeiro, killing 10 people, injuring 11 and leaving at least four missing, Brazilian authorities said. The mudslide in Niteroi, an area outside Rio's downtown, was caused by heavy downpours, Roberto Robadey, Rio's civil defense department head, told Globo TV network.

Robadey said that after two days of heavy rain "a state of alert was declared for Niteroi." He added that people were urged "to move to safer locations." Rescuers said the rain loosened a large boulder, which struck several homes and businesses. Rescuers continued to look for survivors and victims buried in the debris and mud...

Flash Flood in Kuwait on November 12 2018 04:09 AM (UTC).

Flash floods after heavy rains in Kuwait killed one man Saturday and damaged roads, bridges, and homes, officials said, as several oil firms and ministries announced a state of emergency. The health ministry said the man, aged 30, was swept away by the flooding as he tried to rescue his family from their home which was submerged in water. An unspecified number of people were also reported injured in traffic accidents caused by the rains. Several vehicles in many areas of Kuwait were washed away by the floods, particularly in newly-build residential areas, ...

Al-Sabah chaired the meeting and said that officials will be investigated and those who failed in their duties to prevent the flooding will be held accountable...
