Nuclear Event in United Kingdom on June 27 2019 03:28 PM (UTC).

Workers were forced to evacuate the Dounreay nuclear power station in the Scottish Highlands after the discovery of radioactive contamination, it has been revealed. Site bosses blamed "human error" for the incident, according to the Press and Journal newspaper. They also said that there was "insignificant" low-level contamination but no harm has come of the leak.

The incident happened on June 7 but has only just been made public following the Dounreay Stakeholder Group on Wednesday evening. According to reports, workers were forced to leave the plant after follow-up surveys found a number of other contamination 'hotspots'. An in-house probe into how the contamination occurred is now underway. ...

Interesting how often these things happen...

Years ago, I had a Carpenter do some work for me. He had also picked up some work at the local Nuclear Power Plant with high pay that he needed. He would tell me stories of the horrors they were cleaning up... not publicly known...

The last I heard from him he had been hospitalized with spots on his liver....

Also...

My father was of a military High Rank.... he taught Electronics for years and then was put into the Nuclear Program...

He took the first retirement he could get... saying that what they were doing was INSANE...

Heat Wave in MultiCountries on June 24 2019 03:15 AM (UTC).

Situation Update No. 4 on June 27 2019 02:39 PM (UTC)

A huge forest fire has broken out in Spain as a deadly heatwave affecting much of Europe continues to intensify. Temperatures across the continent are expected to continue to soar further still on Thursday, the result of an "enormous" reservoir of warm air drawn from northern Africa, dubbed a Saharan Bubble.

Germany, Poland, and the Czech Republic have already recorded their highest ever June temperatures this week, while France, Switzerland, and Belgium could now follow.

It comes as hundreds of firefighters and soldiers battled a dramatic forest fire in north-east Spain which raged into Wednesday night. Temperatures are expected to reach 45C in parts of northeastern Spain on Friday as officials warned more "significant" forest fires could break out.

Families in the area were evacuated and roads were closed, while Catalonia's regional interior minister Miquel Buch described the blaze as the most serious the region has seen in 20 years. He said on Twitter that there were fears it could destroy 20,000 hectares before it was put out. "Let us be very aware that any irresponsibility can end up being a catastrophe....

...

European forecasters warned that "hell is coming" ahead of this week's record-breaking heat wave...

Forest / Wild Fire in Canada on June 28 2019 03:22 PM (UTC).

The Hunker Summit fire in the Yukon has grown to 850 hectares, and is showing extreme fire behavior because of "unfavourable forest fuels and hot and dry weather." A wildfire near Dawson City, Yukon grew to 400 hectares on Wednesday, the same day it was discovered. Lightning sparked the blaze, which is known as the Hunker Summit wildfire, and it's only expected to grow further, the territory's Protective Services tweeted....

...

Meanwhile, the Toobally Lakes fire has burned to a size of over 14,000 hectares, and it's not considered under control. Like Hunker Summit, that fire is not responding very strongly to suppression efforts.

Drought in Lithuania on July 03 2019 05:12 PM (UTC).

Lithuania declared an emergency on Wednesday as a severe drought hit the Baltic EU state, threatening to slash this year's harvest by up to half. Apart from jeopardizing crops, scant rainfall has also drastically reduced water levels in some rivers, threatening fish stocks and shipping activities. ...

...

Over the last week, firefighters have fought wildfires triggered by the heat in peat bogs in western Lithuania and neighboring Latvia. Elsewhere in Central Europe, Polish authorities said this week that varying degrees of drought have put grain crops at risk in 14 of the EU country's 16 regional districts. The Czech Academy of Sciences said it expects the drought to affect the entire country, with 80 percent of the territory facing "exceptional to extreme drought". ...
