lets talk SCOTCH - single malt or blended...
i had a few wee drams... and i have to say, i love scotch!
what do you like? what are the good buys? there are some decent blends out there that are relatively cheap (teachers and black and white, for example)...

but, tonight, i've been drinking a few nice single malts...

let's get a good list of great, affordable scotch!

Favourite single malt is Lagavulin 16 year old.
My go to blended scotch is Johnny Walker Red, enjoying a dram now as a matter of fact.

JW Red is great on ice I find, but to each his own taste.

mcallan is the best single malts under 100$.Amrit which is indian single malt scotch is rated 3rd best in the world if u can lay ur hands on it.Its available for 60-70$.

Blended scotch doesnt count as real scotch.Johnny walkers(above black) are ripoff.

you can try irish whiskeys. Those come close to scotch.

I've had Glenfidich at 12 years old and I liked it very well. It's a drink for those very special occasions, which aren't very frequent. I'll have a bit next month after I pass my final exam, then probably won't touch it again for a year or more.

Scotch is an acquired taste. I like it, single malt or even blended. Thing is though:

Scotch is fine sipped neat, blended in ice if desired, but it mixes poorly. Sometimes I'll use a blended scotch in a hiball or in beer for a boilermaker, but the taste becomes very muted. Irish is similar if smoother. Bourbon is fantastic neat, on ice, mixed (it retains it's intense flavor.) Canadian whisky also mixes well and is easy to drink neat.
