8.0 in Chiniak Alaska!! USGS upgraded to an 8.2! Tsunami warnings posted!

I don't know where to find a link for this--it has
been posted on GLP before, though.

By the "old" Richter Scale (the one originally set up
by scientists after the Great San Francisco Quake which
was used as the "standard." The SF quake was a 9.0 pt. on THAT first
scale from 1906 thru the mid 1980's...) The Kodiak quake would
come in at a 9.2 pt. not an 8.2 pt. They changed the scale
right after the originator--Richter--died and his assistant
took over to create a "new scale."

"Conspiracy Theorists" in the 1980's believed that the
scientists KNEW greater quakes were in the offing in the
future (and they were correct)...so they LOWERED THE SCALE
by a full point. This all happened after there was a book
published called "This is the Earthquake Generation" and
the theories by Hapgood about crustal displacement that
was the scientist in the movie "2012" that was mentioned.

Lowering the scale by a full point is HUGE because the
scale doesn't just go point by point, it is rather an
exponential scale with a 9.1 pt. being 10 times more
intense than a 9.0 pt. quake. A FULL POINT THEN is a
very big deal.
