San Francisco Department of Emergency Management has tweeted that people within three blocks of the coast or five blocks of the San Francisco Bay should be prepared to evacuate.

Tsunami time table map for those that missed it.

 Quoting: LunaFlora

So I checked one of my YouTube channels who was on this
story by 2:00 A.M. saying that it happened about 1:45 AM EST
...so there is about a 4-5 hour lapse from the Alaska location
putting their time table in San Francisco around 6:00 to
7:00 A.M. EST (San Fran is on Pacific Time, tho.)

We should be getting news at least by that time about
San Francisco and the coastlines in around 1 or 2 hours.
I have relatives in that area, but not in touch right now.

We'll see.

cheers

The #Kodiak earthquake was a strike-slip fault type event and is unlikely to produce a significant #Tsunami

They often don't produce any tsunamis, sometimes local tsunamis may occur due to landslides triggered by the quake.

"The M 7.9 occurred as the result of strike slip faulting. At it's location, the Pacific plate is converging with the North America plate.

Over the preceding century, 11 other M7+ earthquakes have occurred within 600 km of today's earthquake."

"Unlike in December 2004 when a deadly tsunami — triggered by the magnitude-9.1 Sumatra-Andaman earthquake — swept over the Sumatran coastline, though, no significant tsunamis made landfall on April 11 and only a handful of earthquake-related fatalities were reported.

Scientists quickly identified why no tsunami had followed either the main shock or the magnitude-8.2 aftershock that hit two hours later: The earthquakes had occurred on strike-slip faults more than 400 kilometers offshore rather than on the Sunda megathrust fault"

The Latest: Tsunami warning canceled after Alaska quake

"ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — The Latest on an Alaska earthquake that prompted a tsunami warning for coastal Alaska, Canada’s British Columbia and the West Coast of the U.S. (all times local):

3:10 a.m.

The National Tsunami Center has canceled a tsunami warning that was triggered by a powerful earthquake off the coast of Alaska.

Mickey Varnadao, a computer specialist with the warning center in Palmer, Alaska, said early Tuesday that an advisory remains in effect for parts of Alaska, from Kodiak Island to Prince William Sound.

Watches have been canceled for British Columbia in Canada, Washington, Oregon, California and Hawaii. Officials in Japan say there is no tsunami threat there."
