Now Absolute Anything was a pretty good movie to me. I rather enjoyed the dark humor. However, I, too, OP, caught on the whole "previously unknown alien species who ultimately proves themselves to be evil as could be gives literal Magickal powers to one or more human beings with or without their knowledge only to judge the entire species on that individual or individuals they gave Magickal powers to." trope pretty fast.

I don't know for sure if this has anything to do with the Annunaki, but this would fit their way of going about things... Giving Magickal powers to the most Corrupted human(s) on Earth then harshly judge Humanity as a species entirely depending on whatever the Corrupted human(s) do with their new god(dess)hood status.
