Mexico 04/20/2007 11:35 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | John Lennon died for your sins.... [ link to globalartistvillage.blogspot.com] Thoughts after watching The U.S. vs John Lennon by John Tibayan I just watched The U.S. vs John Lennon, a film documentary about John Lennon and Yoko Ono. A must see movie! The film took me on a nostalgic tour of my own life during the years from 1966 - 1980. I remembered how I felt back then that there was something terribly wrong in our society and that it was being hidden from the general public. Over the years I have done extensive research to better understand why the world was the way it was. While watching this film, I was astonished how little I knew back in the 70's about the oligarchy that was pulling the strings of the politicians causing many of the problems and inequities in our society between the haves and the have nots. I didn't realized at the time that most of the real news was blocked out by corporate owned media networks. As a Viet Nam vet, I participated in the Viet Nam anti-war movement, as I do today against the wars in the Middle East. I am so grateful for the advent of the Internet which has made possible thousands or possibly millions of independent grassroots news sources, with thousands of independent investigative reporters. The Internet is evolving and maturing and finally it's powerful promise of providing the instantaneous communication of news and events has arrived. The advancements in new computer technology has made this all possible. The technology of FREE websites, listservers and blogs has facilitated the immediate dissemination of special interest information to which people can have immediate access. What is truly remarkable, is that this technology is only at its inception. The latest phase of technology which has exploded into popularity is FREE Video Sharing as led by Google/YouTube. What this service has provided is that any individual with the technical ability can become their own TV network for FREE. Back to the John Lennon movie, we know that John Lennon was assassinated in 1980. At the time the public was spoon fed a story that the alleged assassin was another psychopathic "lone gunman". Sound familiar? Remember JFK, MLK, RFK. I wondered what I would now find out about John Lennon's assassination with all the independent investigative reporting that is currently published on the Internet. I googled "John Lennon assassination" and immediately found the extraordinary website [ link to www.john-lennon.com.] I read the articles about the assassination and was astonished by the depth of information now available that was never published or broadcasted by corporate owned media networks. I was also amazed at how quickly I accessed the information. One minute. Who killed John Lennon? A must read! John Lennon talked about, wrote about, played music about peace and love. He was a very great visionary who dared to "imagine all the people living life in peace". "You may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one. I hope some day you'll join us and the world will be as one." "Imagine" Music Video: [ link to www.youtube.com] John Lennon website: [ link to www.john-lennon.com] Google online videos about John Lennon [ link to video.google.com] -- John Tibayan - Global Artist Village & Blog The Spiritual and Humanitarian Side of Art & Media, and More... [ link to www.globalartistvillage.org] [ link to www.globalartistvillage.blogspot.com] To watch the 2 min trailer of "The U.S. vs John Lennon" go at [ link to www.youtube.com] And to watch a larger (38 min 19 sec) excerpt of this 1 hr. 39 min. movie go at [ link to video.google.com] ... About which the following comment is posted there: "I hope everyone sees this film, as it is a window into the life of an extraordinary person, who really did influence a generation with his music and his courage. But, I especially hope that the generations that came after John Lennon left us, so unexpectedly, have a chance to see this thoughtful and fitting tribute to the gentle artist who turned the hurt he experienced as a child into an international revolution with a spirit so open and willing to risk everything he had to teach the world that all we really need is love. This film explains to all of us, who were too young to understand what was going on, at the time, how John Lennon was persecuted by the U.S. government for simply expressing his opinion about the war in Viet Nam. How he was investigated, tapped, and followed, then threatened with deportation, in an effort to derail a tour that might have had a significant influence on the outcome of the 1972 presidential election, in which Richard Nixon was re-elected. The scenes of teenagers burning their Beatles records in protest of his quip that the Beatles had become more popular than Jesus, are eerily parallel with the Dixie Chicks fans who did the same thing. Excerpts from Nixon's speeches about the war are almost word-for-word the same rhetoric we get from Bush. This film is important, and moving, and includes some of the best music I know I'll ever hear in this lifetime. Go see it and get inspired." But if you think about it, John Lennon did advocate a humanist side to our nature, he lived by and for it, and and it could be argued that he died for it... "He died for our sins" can be interpreted to mean that he died a martyr for love and peace in the world. That is how he will be remembered, that is what his name evokes. The question is: can we live up to his expectations, was he right, or do we have to evolve, do we have to first discard our comforts, and learn to live a morally superior life, in harmony with nature and with others... No too dissimilar from the other guy who died believing we have great potential, but had to sacrifice himself in order for us to, at least, pay lip service to his ideals... |

Of course, Jesus of Nazareth, for what we have done to his memory, to his legacy, must be rolling in his grave as well... |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 216854John Lennon was quite apalled at christians in general. Not Christ. He didn't even put himself up there with them. When he made the comment about the Beatles being more popular than Jesus, he was commenting on the screwed up mental state of people who call themselves christians, but worship the Beatles rather then Christ. John, Paul, George, and Ringo were pretty disgusted with how the girls were throwing themselves at them screaming and crying and fainting. And what he said at the time was true, they were more popular then Jesus. I think people mistake popular with being better or greater then someone else. This is not the case. Popular means, that you have more people paying attention to you, listening to what you say, and liking or loving you. That's all. Dreams will begin as they fade into chaos. |

But Lennon had a sharp wit, and would have appreciated, and would not have shied away from, any outlandish or controversial approach to advance the cause. We need to learn fom that example and remember how to do it again...
May he and all of us RIP and love... |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 216854I understand perfectly what you are saying. What he stood up for is why he was killed and his death was probably planned by higher ups, if you know what I mean. He stood for peace and was killed for it. Anyone person in the public view that takes a stand for world peace is usually murdered. |
