This flu season has been especially aggressive in most areas of the country, with a girl as young as 4 dying in New Jersey this December. Hawaii is the only state that has so far not experienced rampant illnesses.

i was just looking at the scarlet fever pics and it reminds me of the rash people are getting from using Tamiflu...but im not a doctor so i cant say for sure.

I have had scarlet fever and strep and flu are a part of it. I was very I'll with it at 16 years old.

I had scarlet fever when I was in grade school and here's what I know.The flu this girl had probably led to the strep throat and strep throat can turn into scarlet fever if left untreated.My scarlet fever came from strep throat that didn't respond to antibiotic.

Scarlet Fever is strep that has gone untreated. Rheumatic fever and heart damage comes next. Diphtheria is a different bacteria. You can Google it. My ex has scarlet fever right now, so I just got a crash course in this a few weeks back.

Scarlet fever results from untreated strep that the body cannot resolve on its own. (As a side note, the body usually can, in 7-10 days, and you usually will not ever get symptoms of it again if you allow yourself to heal without antibiotics. This being said, the little ones have a much harder time getting well without meds.) If the infection goes on long enough, heart damage can result.

She was probably correctly diagnosed by nasal swab with the flu, and the clinic might not have gone one step further and then tested her for strep.

I'm worried about my daughter as she has not felt good in over a week. Was tested for flu and strep, which were negative. She's coming home the end of the week and seeing our family doctor.

They told me most cases of flu have had vaccines for flu and there are also several nasty respiratory viruses going around as well. I really don't want her to go to the doctor's office because of all the germs in there.

Not necessarily. A danger of long term or high fevers is dehydration which will kill quicker than you think.
If your child stops drinking enough or only sipping or going without, then they need to get on a IV to restore fluids and electrolytes.

I knew of a little first grade girl who died just that way after a short bout with pneumonia. Her parents were devastated. Relatives of mine lived across the street from them and had no idea until the funeral was announced.
