Got drunk with a pilot last night, said commercial airplanes are electric.
The retired captain was loaded and became very talkative. He said, it as clear as day; "airplane engines are electric!" He said it would be impossible for a 747 weighing +327 tons to fly on fuel like the Space Shuttle did which only weighed +80 tons and needed 20x that in fuel to launch and would make commercial flying extremely expensive and potentially dangerous.
[link to coolcosmos.ipac.caltech.edu]

He explained it like this; "it's all made possible by the auxiliary power unit (APU) a highly efficient generator located at the tail of the craft that powers the engines which are designed to alternate their own electricity as they compress air for thrust becoming self sustaining during cruise flight or they couldn't make 15hr trips."

I jokingly ask him about all this flat earth business, he laughed it off saying that it was all horse-shit that earth is as round as a Chinese plum. At which point it assured me he had been completely honest. I then made a quick reference to 911, that it would have been impossible using electric passenger airplanes on 911! His immediate reply: "911 was an inside job!"

Jet engines are OVER UNITY ENGINES. The turbines once spun up with a compressed air starter are a perpetual motion engine. They need no fuel to run.

The APU is a generator and can make compressed air to restart a stalled engine. The only fuel on board a commercial airliner is for the APU.

Such bullshit...
There is a huge difference between JP5, JP8 and liquid fuel rockets..
This nutcase was no pilot.... Electric propulsion.... WTF?
You are very gullible and naive....
Read up on jet engines...
Check out the engines on the F/A-18. They are 20+ year old tech kiddo.

The Space Shuttle did not "fly" when it launched. It was a rocket. The wings were only used for the return flight.

A 747 is an airplane, not a rocket. It has wings. The engines do not support the entire weight from the bottom like the Space Shuttle launching. The wings support the weight.

To all naysayers here's an APU smokin!
[link to upload.wikimedia.org (secure)]

You'll never see smoke like that coming from the engines. "No sir you won't they're electric", is what the good captain said. He went on to say that airports would reek of fumes had airplanes operated on fuel. And the runway crew would be obliged to wearing gas-masks.

Take a look at this guy he's got all the safety gear needed to work around electric Jet engines. Safety ear protector, safety eye wear, reflector vest, everything but a gas mask but that's because they're not fuel engines.

The Shuttle needed 20x its weight to lift itself into flight.

You're suggesting that a 747 weighing +327 tons will need 20x this in fuel, ha ha ha!

You believe that wings would compensate for half the fuel?

Fine! Granted, you still gotta find the space for 10x its weight to store. That's 6.5 million pounds of fuel. Cannot fit. The 747 fuel tank would have to be larger than the Shuttle rocket boosters combined with the external tank.

Looks like this.

Finally, after a very long time, OP says something true. That is truly worth commenting on.

A pilot got drunk.

Only thing that I'm confused with is why the APU gets shutdown immediately after the electric engines get started? At least I think I mean started! I mean when they start making such a loud noise.

Over to you OP, you have 10 pages to make your point.
