The Buddha is not traditionally depicted as fat and smiling. This is a common mistake originating from China where a minor pagan trickster god whose name, I think, was something like "Buddai," was confused with Siddhartha Gautama, i.e. Buddha.
So OP's entire theory sort of falls flat on its face before it even gets started.
