If only 50 out of every 10,000 were capable, there would have to be 14,000,000 applicants this year alone. I think OP's numbers are incorrect. Noy the first time in history a dying empire has seen it's own as too weak to enforce the leaders will and resorted to importing a mercenary class. |

Quoting: MarPep [link to www.armytimes.com (secure)] In the eighties 25% of the people were not qualified. Today it is at least 75%. That is people who were no to old. Weight is a killer and the military kicks out 3,000 people a year who are overweight and do not lose it. What employers care what you weigh? Get in but you have to keep within the weight range. The military uses a lot of standards that a civilian employer would not be allowed to use or would car about. The run was a 2 mile run not two hours. I forget the time allowed. In 1985 I asked a former drill sergeant about the smarter recruits compared to the less intelligent. He liked the dumber ones as they did what they were told and the smarter ones said WHY. |

Cannot score high enough on army entrance test taken in 2017 Neighbor is car mechanic. Tried to get into army. Cannot pass entrance tests. He is the manager of the car shop. So I don’t think it is the physical part. The recruiter told me they had dropped over 300 mos. they had added like 14 and most of those required a four year degree. Dog handler and drone operator required a four year degree. Just my two cents. Yep, too picky. They want a person versed in todays modern technical world that sits around a computer all the time and a person of yesterday that can pass the physical requirements coming from being physical and an outdoorsman. Bad combination. |

Mental illness is very common nowadays, more so than in the past. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 75561307 I am mentally ill and would probably be disqualified, even from a draft. This. My BF wanted to join the military but he can't. Real mental illness (not just depression) would obviously be a huge liability in the military. Too bad there's not a supportive role for these people who are generally functional but may have an episode now or then. Either mental illness is increasing or regular human behavior is being over-medicalized and over-medicated. Mental Illness isn't on the rise, its just more conditions are being created for Psychiatrists to diagnose. The official Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders is currently on its fifth iteration. For example, 50 years ago ADHD wasn't a mental illness. Children with high energy would go outside and run around during recess and gym class. Since many school districts have eliminated gym and even recess, children denied outlets for their pent-up energy are labeled "disruptive" than get diagnosed with ADHD and are prescribed Ritalin. |

So much so, that they had to start a program for foreigners to join the military and in turn would give them US citizenship. Yes there are some diehard military families that still join generationally, and I would imagine that makes up for the 50 people it listed per % of applicants. Between the endless unconstitutional banker wars, the coverage on how bad veterans are treated in every way in the US, veterans and active military being listed on Homeland Security's top on the watch list, coverage on all the ptsd, as well as other things, is it truly any wonder that most people don't want to sign up anymore? The pool they are now drawing from is not the pool they once drew from. What did they expect to happen after all of the things I listed? Precisely this. |

The Military is being filled with foreigners seeking citizenship. Just like in Rome, They have no loyalties to America and for what it stands for, they will shoot the Citizens if given the order. "when in Rome do as the Romans used to be their motto" - near the end is was- "Do it for the benifits and to hell with loyalty" As soon as the pay stopped, they took over the cities. |

He implied that is just physical. 44 situp crunches in such such time, 4 pullups, easy stuff. Run a certain distance within 2 hours or something (I missed that part, radio got hard to hear). Quoting: Anonymous Coward 45494064 I was in the military, many people in basic training cannot do the minimum, in basic training they make sure as many as possible will meet the min. I have been a runner since I was a kid and in many sports, so I had no trouble. Most of the women cannot do the push-ups, but most can after. Shorter people can do more push-ups (they need a better test). |

"Drugs" are a chemical, and our food is FULL of chemicals (drugs), so it is the government that is faltering, not us. Certainly by now WE know what real idiots and criminally insane they are.- and guess what: so does Trump know. Thank God for Trump, and why so many government people want him to go away. They FEAR HIM, because he is exposing them. He is being forced to fire the whole government because they are all worthless and worse, and they know it.- and, now, so do we know it. Think of all the things gov. can take away from us and now body parts. Thisis going to grow to be very big. They willnot be waiting for you to be dead, and this is already happening in the nursing asylums. What kind of hideous monsters are we going to have slobbering and hovering over us and our children day and night? |

Straight from the horse's mouth. That's your future, soy boys. 30% of our beloved male population or less meet the standard. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 45627647 It's not that they don't "meet the standards" it's that they don't want to join the military. Who wants to go die for corporate interests, or get your legs blown off, or develop PTSD. I saw a guy who had arm stubs, his arms were blown off by IED in Iraq. Nice life, now he has to be waited on by his loved ones, and will get a small living allowance from the government. Was it worth it for corporate interests? If they come to America I'd be one of the first ones ready to defend. However todays military is more the style of occupy foreign countries that have things we want, such as opium or oil. The casualties are for profit, not freedom. THATS why no one wants to join the military today. Very few Millennial knows what you said about the corporate wars.... and if they HAD to fight if war came to America -- they would hide in mommies basement. Most are loud mouth cowards. They can't even handle someone telling them to learn real History without going bonkers. . My dog ate my pronouns, he/she/it - everywhere. (Clown World tees) . Want to make God laugh, tell Him 'your' plans. . Cremation... the only hope I have left for a smoking hot body... . God bless America! :flag waver: |

Of course it would never be publicaly admitted if it was. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 45466214 You are what you eat. It's a fact that males who eat soy products will begin to grow breasts. I've heard this directly from a completely outside the glp realm by wellness nutritionist practictioners. Well what man would drink estrogen knowing it was in the soy? They should have to label that shit. Of course they are gonna grow big tits drinking estrogen. I'm worrying about that shit in the formulas for babies. |
