US Military comments today about difficulty in finding capable recruits: out of 10,000, only 50 found

I passed 63 out of 64 on armed services entry test, was going into navy, e-3, start working with nuclear propulsion. Denied due to my ADHD diagnosis as a child. Whatever...

The US Army is looking for 80,000 recruits this year. If only 50 out of every 10,000 were capable, there would have to be 14,000,000 applicants this year alone. I think OP's numbers are incorrect.

This is one reason for our elite's frantic importation of military-aged foreign males. Noy the first time in history a dying empire has seen it's own as too weak to enforce the leaders will and resorted to importing a mercenary class.

In the eighties 25% of the people were not qualified. Today it is at least 75%.
That is people who were no to old. Weight is a killer and the military kicks out 3,000 people a year who are overweight and do not lose it.

What employers care what you weigh? Get in but you have to keep within the weight range.

The military uses a lot of standards that a civilian employer would not be allowed to use or would car about.

The run was a 2 mile run not two hours. I forget the time allowed.

In 1985 I asked a former drill sergeant about the smarter recruits compared to the less intelligent. He liked the dumber ones as they did what they were told and the smarter ones said WHY.

They want a person versed in todays modern technical world that sits around a computer all the time and a person of yesterday that can pass the physical requirements coming from being physical and an outdoorsman.

Mental Illness isn't on the rise, its just more conditions are being created for Psychiatrists to diagnose. The official Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders is currently on its fifth iteration.

For example, 50 years ago ADHD wasn't a mental illness. Children with high energy would go outside and run around during recess and gym class. Since many school districts have eliminated gym and even recess, children denied outlets for their pent-up energy are labeled "disruptive" than get diagnosed with ADHD and are prescribed Ritalin.

It's their own fault for having a flawed recruitment process.

Nobody even trusts their recruiters, nor should they.

They do not want good soldiers, they want good slaves.

Lets be honest here, most people don't want to join the military anymore so that shrinks the applicants significantly.

So much so, that they had to start a program for foreigners to join the military and in turn would give them US citizenship.

Yes there are some diehard military families that still join generationally, and I would imagine that makes up for the 50 people it listed per % of applicants.

Between the endless unconstitutional banker wars, the coverage on how bad veterans are treated in every way in the US, veterans and active military being listed on Homeland Security's top on the watch list, coverage on all the ptsd, as well as other things, is it truly any wonder that most people don't want to sign up anymore?

The pool they are now drawing from is not the pool they once drew from.

If my son who is in excellent physical shape and has a high school diploma and scored average and above average on his national tests cannot pass the army entrance exam what makes you think all these foreigners from wherever can. I think that is s load of elephant dung.

I was in the military, many people in basic training cannot do the minimum, in basic training they make sure as many as possible will meet the min. I have been a runner since I was a kid and in many sports, so I had no trouble.

Most of the women cannot do the push-ups, but most can after. Shorter people can do more push-ups (they need a better test).

On that not, in my opinion sound men don't "enlist". Men trying to "find themselves" do. Real men work hard, live, marry, have kids, hang with family,...until its time to defend home.

exactly. I found ADHD is brought on by poor teaching. Kids actually get bored, and tired of learning so slow.
