Near the end, Walsh mentions the emotional blackmail of "either accept your daughter is now your son, or that you will have a dead (suicide) daughter". I have 2 teen daughter's from my ex. Both have had episodes for cutting and been admitted to facilities for suicidal thoughts. The older one also had an eating disorder which required hospitalization. For the past 2 years I have been consistently and constantly forced to allow things I disagree with, alter rules and bite my tongue for fear that one (or both) would kill themselves and blame it on me. The therapists and psychiatrists have been almost no help, and while they will agree with me about many things when we are talking privately, when it is in a group setting with my daughter(s) or just them alone, they pander to the current social proclivities. For example: my older (17 years old) daughter strated dating a trans "boy" earlier this year. This "boyfriend" we had known for a couple years as a girl, but one day she decided to change her name and be a boy. I was forced to tolerate it, for fear of being a bigot or "transphobic". I tried explaining to my daughter (in as polite a manner as possible) that her boyfriend isn't really a boy, as in "he" can not physically get you pregnant (and other differences between a hormone ravaged teen boy and teen girl). It was met with harsh criticism, and eventually a suicide "attempt". Daughter was hospitalized for the attempt, the relationship (which was failing anyway) ended, and a month later my daughter informed her counselor that she was changing her name to a gender neutral name. Which, to their credit they did give me a call about, but to their detriment (and current societies) all her teachers now call her by the new name, and it is what will be on her diploma (unless she changes her mind) when she graduates. Thankfully, she doesn't expect me to call her that name (yet) because she at least pretends to understand my views through conversations we have had over the years. But again, through this all, I feel my hands are tied by the emotional blackmail, have to choose my words or just stay silent for fear of the very real possibility of suicide. It's absolutely heart wrenching. If your children were cutting themselves there is more than you know, that is the problem. I hate to mention this but something caused them trauma sometime in their childhood. I am completely aware of that, and I bet it has something to do with their drug addict degenerate mother and things that happened when we had 50/50 custody. I don't know if you know cases about this, the reasons they cut themselves is because the pain is so deep, they cut to feel, in other words, they crying on the inside, the actions they are doing now are the same thing, they need a really good ear to hear this, no judgments, kindness in the extreme and someone who wants to listen not push but tell if they want to talk to you about anything you are there for them. This is deep inside and they need it open and burned, you can use one of the things I did, tell them to write it down on paper and take those things written and burn them sort of cremation of cares. Tell them who or whatever they feel and how it is wrong and if they don't want to let it win, then burn it, and if they want to talk later, and if they blame you listen, you may not know that it is how children perceive their pain, even if you didn't know, only it how they would feel at the time, you didn't protect them. Tell them if you did something that hurt them, so you can understand. I know half the time I write things hard to understand, bear with me, your children are the hurting ones, and they need to make it alright. You can't say anything, you have to take a beating, if need be, physically and emotionally, you are the parent who could be blamed even if you could not have known. Try to get them to do something with you, just them and you, no one else, fishing, walking, whatever you want to try but it is one way to do a little at a time, never be surprised at what they are doing, just don't lose your cool. They haven't told you and it could be anything. I know people that had similar things that happened and it caused a bad trust issue and never trusted someone loving them. Sorry I got a headache These are the times that tries men's and women's souls! May we come though it victorious! |
