The Apostles' Creed reminds me of this:
Years ago, Tom the minister was teaching about the history of the Christian Church (Disciples).
It started on the frontier in Kentucky and Tennessee.
He mentioned that we have no creed and focus on the words of Jesus and the NT.
"Where he speaks, we speak..." and The Lord's Prayer.

I had just watched the Alvin York movie with Gary Cooper.
In the barracks at Basic, a guy asked him "what creed" at his church.
He replied "no creed." He was just a backwoods hillbilly;)

I mentioned that to Tom, asking if Sgt. York was a Disciple. He said good question!
Wiki now tells me that he was with the Church of Christ (close enough).
The Civil War caused many denominations to split.

Some in the congregation thought the minister shouldn't be a member of the Handbell choir.
We needed all the hands we could get;)
When he passed suddenly, the sanctuary was standing room only, not a dry eye.
We didn't realize all that he did until he was gone.
