My daughter is dating a legal immigrant (Dominican Republic) and at Thanksgiving, the family was discussing the first "caravan" that they were coming in all at once, how dangerous and unhealthy such a situation is and I mentioned ('cuz I'd read it several times on GLP) how in the sanctuary cities in California they were actually shitting on the street and the state is giving addicts clean needles to do their drugs with.
So I saw my daughter 2 weeks later and she was very angry with me. Said her boyfriend hardly ever gets mad but he was ripping mad about my comment at Thanksgiving about shitting on the streets (what else does she think happens when thousands of people walking and living together in the streets? - but I digress). I was shocked he was upset and told her for goodness sake, that conversation wasn't aimed at him! She still insisted I insulted him and his family. Perplexed, I asked - "But he and his family are here legally, right?" She said yes. I said then
he should be angry. I was actually defending him!
I couldn't rationalize with her that this caravan is not normal immigration - it's not even normal
illegal immigration, they're being lied to and being organized by the UN and NGO groups.
She then said from now on, whenever I was in the company of her boyfriend, and she added, "and me, I'd appreciate it if you keep your opinions to yourself".
Opinions?? Since then I checked the fact of migrants shiting in the streets and oh, yeah. It ain't just in San Francisco. Denver decriminalized it to make it easier on the homeless and migrants. Then there was Pennsylvania and Germany and...Opinions. Sure.
But that day, no amount of logic would reach her. This is a daughter I always supported, including her relationship with her boyfriend. Didn't matter. Our once close relationship vanished. It was the worst Christmas since my husband died 19 years ago.
So be careful, HMM. This country is so very volatile that the energies have totally skewered even the most intelligent (she has her masters). Logic is lost, it's all about feelings.
