He does have some resentment at Trump because he was a very early outspoken voice in Trump's favor. Honestly, a lot of his book Government Zero: No Borders, No Language, No Culture was essentially the platform that Trump echoed. I'm definitely not a fan of his bitterness. He spends way too much time bitching about Hannity and Levin. Too much jealousy. That being said, his argument today wasn't that Trump's tweets were wrong, it's that the 4 Democrat Horsewomen of the Apocalypse were in a fight with Pelosi (a Democrat civil war) prior to Trump's tweets. Now they're not only not fighting, but they're unified again and can use the media to portray them as victims. From that perspective I do agree it was an unforced error.
I don't always agree with Savage, but I don't need to do so. He's a far deeper thinking than most in the media. Sure, he has some flaws, but none of us really benefit from living inside an echo chamber.

Either Savage is 'controlled opposition' or possibly someone has control over him with a little bit of personal information/photos/whatever to hold over his head and prevent him from doing what he used to do. I thought it was strange that the UK would place him on a "NO FLY" list into the UK. Perhaps he is playing on their side as controlled opposition. Who knows for sure. Except him.. I get so annoyed when someone spreads mis information and in a way that's what he did by saying he was asking all over and could not confirm that there were any raids. In a round about way discrediting POTUS comments that there were raids but also alluding to raids in the middle of the night ala nazi germany. There's no reason for him to throw gasoline on the fire and he did and all his viewers heard him.
