Starbird User ID: 75520700 ![]() 03/22/2018 12:07 PM ![]() Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Revealed: 50 million Facebook profiles harvested for Cambridge Analytica in major data breach Quoting: So That Just Happened 76386549 Whistleblower describes how firm linked to former Trump adviser Steve Bannon compiled user data to target American voters ‘I made Steve Bannon’s psychological warfare tool’: meet the data war whistleblower Mark Zuckerberg breaks silence on Cambridge Analytica Carole Cadwalladr and Emma Graham-Harrison Sat 17 Mar 2018 22.03 GMT First published on Sat 17 Mar 2018 13.01 GMT Cambridge Analytica whistleblower: 'We spent $1m harvesting millions of Facebook profiles' – video The data analytics firm that worked with Donald Trump’s election team and the winning Brexit campaign harvested millions of Facebook profiles of US voters, in one of the tech giant’s biggest ever data breaches, and used them to build a powerful software program to predict and influence choices at the ballot box. A whistleblower has revealed to the Observer how Cambridge Analytica – a company owned by the hedge fund billionaire Robert Mercer, and headed at the time by Trump’s key adviser Steve Bannon – used personal information taken without authorisation in early 2014 to build a system that could profile individual US voters, in order to target them with personalised political advertisements. Christopher Wylie, who worked with a Cambridge University academic to obtain the data, told the Observer: “We exploited Facebook to harvest millions of people’s profiles. And built models to exploit what we knew about them and target their inner demons. That was the basis the entire company was built on.” Documents seen by the Observer, and confirmed by a Facebook statement, show that by late 2015 the company had found out that information had been harvested on an unprecedented scale. However, at the time it failed to alert users and took only limited steps to recover and secure the private information of more than 50 million individuals. [link to www.theguardian.com (secure)] They obviously didn't share any of this information with the media who really thought Hillary would win. I am not reading they influenced democrats to go vote for Trump at the polls. They encouraged those already leaning correct?? This just sounds like another way to run a campaign to me. Face Palmer User ID: 32878583 ![]() 03/22/2018 12:55 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | There was no data breach. FB earns money selling your profiles. "The world will soon wake up to the reality that everyone is broke and can collect nothing from the bankrupt, who are owed unlimited amounts by the insolvent, who are attempting to make late payments on a bank holiday in the wrong country, with an unacceptable currency, against defaulted collateral, of which nobody is sure who holds title." Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity. The woman who is not pursued sets up the doctrine that pursuit is offensive to her sex, and wants to make it a felony. No genuinely attractive woman has any such desire. - H.L. Mencken, In Defense Of Women |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 76253631 This has nothing to do with security. It was Facebook's business model. There was no data breach. Facebook sold the data to President Trump as it sold the data to obama and who ever else was willing to pay. NO DATA BREACH! |
