These guys are being sacastic jerks because they are like most preppers, they want to be the only ones alive.

I got you bro! Veteran Prepper!

Start with first aid! Stay on this kit until finished. Radiation pills, trama kit, minor surgery kit, go to he DR. Fake an illness and get antibiotics and pain meds, get all the meds you can. Over the counter and perscription. Think of everything you've been to a DR for and what you can't get when a SHTF situation happens. Think of broken bones, gun shot wounds, illness, all of it. This kit should cost you about $1000.00 to $1500.00 when finished. Get quality. Quick clot pads and such.

Then move on to water purification. You get it
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 71149591

I agree, I'm a prepper too...

If you're specifically prepping for WW3, think of radiation fallout and the effects of fallout. Get to know the different levels of radiation (Gamma, Beta, Alpha) and how the effect the body with different doses. Then plan around that. Think of nausea medications, ample supply of potable water and multiple ways of acquiring it through filtration and distillation. Get a good pancake Geiger Counter that can do time weighted averages of alpha particles. Then have a storm shelter that is below ground. Make sure it is big enough to handle many months of food, water, toilet paper, medications, and preps...

Of course this is all meaningless if your within 30-40 miles from a blast zone and are down wind....

Base your WW3 radiation fallout on multiple SS-40's detonating (40 megaton fusion weapons)...

Think of secondary fires that will further contaminate the air with smoke and ember fallout. Think of grass fires, house fires, and then the rains come. If you're in very hilly terrain think of mud slides that are contaminated with fallout debris...

It would be a nightmare.

Any good ideas? I have a 90 supply of food and water. That's not really anything.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 72801203

You have 900 gallons of water stored, per person, to get a 90 day supply, well good for you!
Most people are deluded into thinking they can get by on a gallon a day or less.
That is just for drinking and even amount is often short term figure. That does not include being sick, summer heat, major physical exertion, etc.
Even 10 gallons a day, per person is a very low amount. This is a proven fact based upon refugee camps, average water usage requirements, per person.

And don't forget that you need to rotate that water storage also, water should not be stored longer than 1 year, unless special precautions are taken to extend its storage life.

You need water for a lot of things, personal hygiene, cooking, cleaning, laundry, spillage, leaks, etc.
Otherwise, you better have an on call hospital, full of doctors for all the diseases you will be getting.

Having a real water supply and knowing how to purify it, is a whole lot better option, than trying to store it.

Knowledge of how to survive is most important, researching the truth, rather than someones misconceptions on survival, is next.

In an all-out nuclear exchange there will be no human survivors by the time that the 90-day supply of water runs out.
 Quoting: dogman17

That is not true. There would be many survivors in rural locations...

Look at Chernobyl, the area is full of wild life (but contaminated)....

Look at Fukushima, the fish are still alive (but many are contaminated)....

Look at Nagasaki and Hiroshima, people are still alive and are flourishing over the radioactive blast sites...

Yes, humans will survive and many will be contaminated. Therefore, life expectancy will decrease sharply due to exposure rates.

Get some combat training, invest in weapons and ammo, find a prepper that did all the work of prepping for you, become "friends" with said prepper but not too close. You don't want any emotional baggage because when SHTF you're gonna have to put a bullet in the back of their head or front, whatever gets you off, anyway kill them and take their stuff, BOOM, you're now ready for the end.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 75682355

The prepper realizes that this combat person is a leach and would rather shoot them instead of learning how to prep. The prepper learns how to shoot and maintain the combat person's weapons. The prepper then decides to poison the combat person and he dies in his sleep. Then the prepper takes all the combat person's weapons and ammo...

The least expensive well is about $150 for a sandpoint well kit. It has some pipe and a pump. In my area, the water is not very far down. They are intended for agricultural use, but with good sanitation, them it would save your life.

Next you would make a Biosand filter. This screens out 95% of pathogens in the water in case it is polluted by runoff.

So for about $200 you would be set for regular potable water.

Then you should catch rain to ensure some water for your garden especially in times of potential drought.

Think the Bush family and the Moon cult have bought adjoining huge tracts of land over a large aqueduct. According to a map I saw a few years back that is the best area in Uruguay.

The Bush family will then be in position to sell water and Moon to water lots of Moon families.

Don't have any idea about Argentina.

How did fur trappers get clean without soap? The only way to make soap is to have a fat source. And the animals might not have enough fat or be immature and not ready to harvest and then render the fat. And remember, some rendered fsat is needed for your diet and some for candles too.

Here's how. You use a scant amount of wood ash and rinse thoroughly. You also can use the roots of some ferns, which they did in the UK during WW2 as the roots have saponins in them...but is very mild.

2 rabbits, a male and female for endless supply of protein, yes rabbits breed like rabbits lol. A homemade water purifier. A nice generator works too as the longer you have electricity you can save your food storage and use what you have in the fridge and freezer before starting on your long lasting food. Candles and books and some medicine. Most importantly a basement with an enclosed room safe from nuclear fallout. Good luck!

I don't worry about protecting my shit as much as you guys do. I have 2 45's and a good amount of ammo and I think that is fine. It helps having a high IQ for protecting your shit. I think their will be a massive dieoff of low iq people in and around cities, but those of us with reasoning skills will find a way. I have a fool proof plan, but I can't share it here I don't want to give it away. Lets just say intruders will be looking for nice shelter and food from easy targets. The key is too make your shelter look beat and destroyed from the eyes of bad people. Keep all the supplies hidden. Its good to have a non flameable shelter as well. People might try to burn you out, or a stray missile can hit nearby.

You're kind of a jackass. Preppers don't want everyone else to die and it's probable that sarcasm stems from cluelessnes. That being said, not everyone has that kind of money. A handfull of wildcrafted or purchased yarrow and skill can compete with quick clot pads. Comfrey is called knitbone for a reason, etc. Knowledge is power.Setting bones and digging out bullets or knowing when to leave them in is a whole other story.

Shelter, water, heat, food and hygiene are good places to start. 90 days water is nothing. Learn to find, make and purify it.
 Quoting: janedoenut

Don't complain about money with prepping. Get a second job. Prepping cost money! PERIOD! It's your family and your life you're protecting. Don't go low budget, Walmart, cheap so called suvival crap. Your bug out bag alone should cost you about 5 grand. Yep! That much!

And your first aid kit will cost about $1000.00 to $1500.00

So stop with the I don't have prep money. Get two jobs, one for bills and one for prepping.

Stop buying dumb shit you don't need and focus soley on prepping. Will take you about a year and about $20,000.00

So first step in prepping is job applications!!

Don't listen to low budget idiots who aren't serious about being prepared like this asshole moron who'll be dead in a month.

And YES most preppers plans are to hunker down while people die around them.

Get enough for others too. You won't be alone when SHTF I promise you.

Eating rabbits alone will kill you. Not enough fat and nutrients. Make sure your homemade water purifier can purify radioactive particles in the water. You need a sacrificial particle to absorb the radioactive particle in order for purification. Think of Zeolite...

Generators are very nice to power well's, but make a lot of noise that can draw attention to your area. Think more of solar panels and a few banks of deep cycle batteries with at least a 3000 watt pure sine wave inverter. This will give you ample power to run a refrigerator and freezer, lighting, and heat/AC portable system....

Even when it is total cloud cover, you still can use the solar panels to make electrical power. Best to use an MPPT charge controller for optimal power conversion...

Re: What can I buy to protect my family from World War 3?
If I could go back 40 years and start prepping from scratch, this is what I have learned:

1. Acquire small home and some land near enough work to commute. Avoid cities with restrictive ordinances.

2. Stock cheap food that keeps for years. Once, I ate some rice that I packaged over 20 years earlier. It was not even packaged that well. It was fine. Start with the Mormon Four (wheat, honey, salt, and powdered milk), and then expand from there. Forget overpriced freeze dries.

3. Learn to COOK. Grind your own grain into flour and bake bread. Keep beans and rice going in crock pots all the time. You will end up richer and healthier.

4. Chickens, ducks, and milk goats.

5. Learn to garden. Once again, richer and healthier. Start freezing and canning your produce.

6. Plant fruit trees and berry vines.

7. Dig a pond for emergency water supply/fish.

As others mentioned, arms and ammo are very important. So are fences, hedges, and good gates. Most important is having good relations with neighbors who can band together for mutual defense. Never plan on waiting in your home for looters to strike. Send a patrol out a few clicks and ambush them before they even get close.

I have, belatedly, accomplished all of the above.

Mom used to say, "Too soon alt. Too late shmahrt."

THIS

I actually did this a few years ago... bought a property in Argentina. Have two houses and rent one to tourists, and I still have several acres of land to homestead. Depending on where in Argentina, life can be cheap and relaxing. No info on Uruguay.

In terms of nuclear fall out, I've read that the northern and southern hemisphere trade winds and ocean currents tend to stay separated. So there's a good chance that some regions farther south of the equator wouldn't be impacted as harshly if the war is in the northern hemisphere. There are no guarantees, but there are fewer targets down here.
