I would say the downside would be the kids would at least need to go to school through metal detectors at least ounce a week to socialize with there peers and to turn in there school work.

Many students are already being schooled at home with excellent results in fact. Them makeing friends and learning from it should not be taken from them. No one said they can not make friends and in fact this could be encouraged and it would be much safer than the current method. my method makes detecting weapons easear to detect just 1 day a week.
