slightly convoluted. A powerful witch would be one who is older. She has a lot of power. But every witch has a weakness, that they try to hide. Either way I would say a powerful witch is the witch who has age because she has experience.

It's not a well posed question, as "amateur" is not the antithesis of "powerful". Perhaps you meant those seeking to be powerful and the ones who already are?

All being an "amateur" really implies is that you do not make money or earn a living from a practice of a thing. Somehow it has come to mean a quality. All professional means is that someone makes money and earns a living from a practice of a craft. A busking street musician is a professional if they earn a living, if not the same person is an amateur. It doesn't imply the persons craft to be of a lesser quality, yet somehow people apply the word as if it does. Wannabe isn't really that great either, That word actually has positive connotations, at least someone want to be something.

A powerful witch first and foremost knows the truth about this world, and can manipulate that reality to their benefit. Often they only have to "create circumstances" , if that sounds familiar to you, often they don't even have to engage in any magic beyond simple deceit. They might engage someone as friend, lover, associate or even be in a marriage for years before they pounce and use that person for whatever they decide to.
