Trump calls Amazon's deal with Postal Service a 'scam' costing 'billions'
President Trump reignited his feud with Amazon on Saturday arguing that the online retailer’s “scam” shipping deal with the U.S. Postal Service is costing the agency “billions of dollars.”

“It is reported that the U.S. Post Office will lose $1.50 on average for each package it delivers for Amazon. That amounts to Billions of Dollars,” Trump said over two tweets. “If the P.O. ‘increases its parcel rates, Amazon’s shipping costs would rise by $2.6 Billion.’ This Post Office scam must stop. Amazon must pay real costs (and taxes) now!”

...does not include the Fake Washington Post, which is used as a “lobbyist” and should so REGISTER. If the P.O. “increased its parcel rates, Amazon’s shipping costs would rise by $2.6 Billion.” This Post Office scam must stop. Amazon must pay real costs (and taxes) now!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) March 31, 2018

The tweets suggest Trump got his information from The New York Times and attack the “Fake Washington Post,” which continues to be critical of Trump’s administration and is owned by Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon.

The president’s tweets on Saturday also suggest Amazon is not paying its fair share of sales tax and that the Post’s “lobbying staff” has “ballooned” in efforts to keep favorable tax laws and the Postal Service deal.

However, federal regulators have found the contract with Amazon to be profitable.

the question is who in the postal service negotiated a deal in which they lose money on every package they deliver for amazon?

shouldn't the person(s) who negotiated this deal be held accountable?

Still doesn't further qualify "fake" with "liberal."

People will ask why is it fake? What makes it fake? Aren't liberals nice, honest, ethical people?

After all, look at how many of them supported Hillary. She's nice, honest and ethical. Isn't she?

Oh, people supported her for another reason? What was that reason? But aren't liberals nice, honest and ethical?

Re: Trump calls Amazon's deal with Postal Service a 'scam' costing 'billions'
nothing new here folks... these oligarchs get special deals... look at goldman owned uber? why do you think they charge less than what is profitable for their runs? their goal is to keep all competition at bay until they completely monopolize the industry and then they will raise prices. meanwhile some of their uber X drivers are making appx $3 an hour? [link to www.npr.org (secure)]

look at youtube/google... google was started by the NSF... with our tax dollars. this wasnt some organic company started in a garage... they sought out these two russians and practically gave them google. then google benefits from extremely cheap bandwidth for a couple of decades?

they buy youtube in 2006 for 1.6 billion and stealthily restrict filtering year after year. they still benefit from extremely cheap bandwidth that you and i subsidized. now they blatantly censor non-communist ideologies? and magically net neutrality is removed making it impossible for anyone to compete via bandwidth?

twitter doesnt even hide their communist slant... they openly brag via their H1B foreign workers on how they ban americans posting patriotic tweets. they have so much disdain for our country yet live here via an H1B visa? unreal.

Limousine liberals and champagne socialists. Such people span the two political parties. Many of them are in the camp of go-along-to-get-along. For example, the passage of and judicial ruling on Obamacare, etc.

Anyone know how much Amazon pays? Obviously some groups pay less postage than we ordinary people must, because I see used books for sale from this outfit, "Better World Books", in Washington State, near Costco, for less than the cost of shipping a book. Don't know if this is connected to Amazon, but serves as an example of one company undermining thousands of companies with a sweetheart deal.

Have read that Amazon pays only $1.50 per package no matter the weight, but this seems outrageous, even for the corrupt US government. Postage is now the biggest single expense for the company that ships within the US.

So how much does Amazon really pay for those packages?

That's complete bullshit. USPS gives discounted bulk rates and they negotiated rates with Amazon to get their business, same as any courier service would.

Amazon got the best deal they could. That is simply doing good business, reducing costs and returning value and income to shareholders. I think that is called 'The Art of the Deal', right?

And now they and Trump are moaning about the deal that they negotiated and agreed to?

Normally I would agree with that. However, when that private business is exploiting a public service that every taxpayer must pay for, something must be done.

Why should any American subsidize Amazon's shipping costs? Will the last mom and pop shop please turn out the lights when Amazon devours your business. Thanks.

OK, so let's say that Amazon pays $1.50/package no matter the weight. They agreed to that based on the volume of business from Amazon, right? They weren't forced to offer that discount.

And the President is criticizing Amazon for driving a deal and trying to influence private business deals?

What happened to free market capitalism and the art of the deal?

False equivalency. Amazon is hooked up with a government-supported division known as the US Postal Service. Taxpayer money is flowing around, through and between the whole mess.

So did Amazon somehow force USPS to agree to these rates?

They sat down to negotiate, USPS offered a price to Amazon and Amazon accepted that. Did USPS fuck up? Maybe. But is that Amazon's fault for driving the best deal they could?

Sorry, but Trump needs to keep his nose OUT of private enterprise deals.
