I think that fact was built into organized religion to keep us divided. If people believe something to be true strongly enough they will fight to the death any opposing views.

I liked Digger very much. I considered him an internet friend.

A couple of times I made the mistake of trying to even bring up questions about controversial subjects like vaccines or natural health or so-called climate change when those topics came up in normal conversation with the liberals I work with every day.

They had the oddest response, getting all emotionally upset and inarticulate and defensive.

Personally I thought we were supposed to question EVERYTHING, especially propaganda being pushed by big media, big corporations, big education and big pharma.

Apparently - not.

While there was no threat of violence, the irrationality and emotional disturbance from ordinary seemingly sane, functional people, doesn't bode well for any future situation that might take everyone out of their comfort zone and into risk, danger and uncertainty.

Old ideas like keeping a sense of humor, respecting other people's right to their opinion, being open to new ideas, enjoying a friendly argument - seem to be dead, gone and buried in the past.

Isn't it a shame, I think it's really boring for everyone to feel like they have to agree all the time, I don't get it, this isn't the world I grew up in at all.

And, yes if you think about it, quite scary.

the tv show here and Now, which is weird as shit, had a funny bit where the black adoptee didn't want a pushy liberal huge white guy to hang a black lives matter sign on her store window.

I got a kick out of that. he called her a race traitor bitch and basically threatened her life.

I've been very shocked at the cavalier statements that some white women I work with have openly said at a table with white men in work meetings.

Just saying straight out casually that white men are the problem with the world today and need to be taken down a peg, when their white man boss (greatest boss ever) is sitting right there with their other white male colleagues and some of those guys are such brainwashed idiots they'll sit and nod in agreement.

Very difficult for me to keep my mouth shut but I really like my job and any other place I'd just be out of the frying pan into the fire. It wouldn't be different any other place here, it would be much worse.

When someone gets loud and confrontational just hit the fucker. I can debate without resorting to anger and I expect the same. When they bring that on me I'm fucking them up. I'll never change. It's best you do.

Growing up it was customary for my dad and his friends to have lively political debates after dinner. They had wildly opposing views and would argue passionately for their side.
No matter what they always stayed civil and even conceded to other views at times. At the end of the evening everyone went home in good spirits and probably better off for the discussion.
