Police investigate reports of 'zombie' raccoons
YOUNGSTOWN — Police are investigating reports of "zombie-like" raccoons in northeast Ohio.

WKBN-TV reports Youngstown police have received more than a dozen calls in the past three weeks about raccoons acting strangely in the daytime.
Photographer Robert Coggeshall says he was playing with his dogs outside his home last week when one such raccoon approached them. Coggeshall says the animal would stand on its hind legs, show its teeth and fall over backward.

Distemper, or rabies.

Avoid them, and call the cops.

hesright

Although it is Youngstown; that's fairly typical behavior for the human population as well.

Re: Police investigate reports of 'zombie' raccoons
We went through stuff back in 1998-1999-2000 the raccoons heavy populated around us and in some of the abandoned mines on the mountain behinds us.
They came down for the creek over the bank on our land, they were after crawdads and minnows and frogs.
They even burrowed into the bank.

After the really bad rains and storms of 1998-1999, the water and slides of the mountains left pooling of standing water everywhere.
The water even shot out of the mountain like a complete horizontal high pressure water falls, that stuff was like water drill.

The raccoons came down to our level after the mountain slide and the water broke through it and filled the mines.
They got rabies after that and when the water was standing with not for the ground to absorb it.

They took to looking real bad, weight loss, walking humped backed like a Halloween cat all arched up, staggering.
They would bite you also, one bite my aunt on the hand sitting on her patio.

They came in to an enclosed section we had at the back of the house and got up into the open rafters of it.
You hit them on the face and head with broom handle and they would take and not growl or show their teeth.

I back off when I saw that I knew they were really sick.
They would stagger and fall down then get back up and stagger more as they.

Bad stuff when they sick.
