Most Asian stock markets were holding early Friday, in an early sign that investors—for now--are brushing off concerns about the brewing brouhaha between the world's two biggest economies. President Trump on Thursday called for Robert Lighthizer, the U.S. trade representative, to consider $100 billion in additional tariffs against China. The two nations have already slapped each other with planned tariffs totaling $50 billion this week. But economic analysts said the situation -- which some U.S. news outlets have already branded a "trade war" -- could change rapidly, especially given the nations' ongoing war of words. So will China stop delivering its goods in exchange for green papers printed in the US with the face of George Washington? I think the green papers will not be worth anything after that ... |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 76437501 United States 04/06/2018 11:31 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Guess we will find out won't we. I'm not saying the market may not take a hit. But China will most definitely be on the losing end of this. It's simple economics. There are numerous countries that get the short end of the stick because there is only so much we can export and a large portion goes to China. Now, they find the other avenues to sell the bread basket; China loses. Plain and simple. Americans Have the Most to Lose in a Trade War [link to www.youtube.com (secure)] Hardly, most Americans are living paycheck to paycheck and many homeless. Tell me, how much worse can it get when you are living in a tent walking around feces from other homeless. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 76437501 United States 04/06/2018 11:35 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Mathematically China has to lose. It's that simple. The trade imbalance is so large. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 75430122 Came here to say this. Tariff threats on US imports is a joke. Oh noez! What will we do with our Soybeans and scrap metal? (Answer: sell to Leafland at a slight discount who would then export to China). They could raise prices or even halt shipments of their own shit but they'd have to sell that shit elsewhere, and at a cheaper price. And that alternate destination could just reship those goods (This is actually the bulk of Singapore's revenue). I'm sure plenty of the ASEAN countries would like to be the next Singapore haha. LMFAO This is a good argument about whether or not china is ... the weaker in a game of wars, like this ones playing out. Do they need America.... most economist would say yes, because based on the old system of financial transactions via UN and other humanitarian aspects the currency has value. I would say, with the current anomalies in both currency and humanitarian currency, they don't see the value in capitulating to the dominant powers. China can't eat assembled cheap junk. They have a billion people to feed and they get the majority of that feed from other countries. |

But how is it pushing the world around when we create tariffs, are even if we refuse trade altogether with another country? As a nation, any nation is entitled to cancel all trade with anyone they choose. If me and you are trading baseball cards, either of us have the right to quit! |
