Funny thing about the Chinese tariffs on pork. The largest pork producer in the world is Smithfield, HQ'd in Virginia but the largest processing plant in the world is in N. Carolina. Who owns Smithfield? The Chinese! Are they going to place tariffs on one of their own companies? That answer is "NO" and here's why. The Upper Class Chinese will not eat locally produced pork. God only knows why the Chinese slop their hogs with but it can't be trusted for human consumption. They crave American pork so that's why they bought Smithfield. No way China will tariff their upper crust taste for American pork. Soybeans? Who else produces soy on the level America does? They need their soy and will not follow through with this eathier. |

In 2009 the market was @ 8,000 it's now around 24,000. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 24753971 Question: did the economy triple in those 9 years ? The market reflects overall confidence in the economy, it's people voting with their dollars... I invest to help companies grow and make me money...what else are you going to do with your cash? Sit in it and watch it go down in value? Not me I never forgive and I never forget I am a licensed firearm holder. I will, under protection of law, use lethal force if attacked. |

LOL, that is so ironic. You can go through the list of products China wants to slap tariffs on and realize that would be disastrous to the Chinese people. American cars? China doesn't import them. GM has a plant in China that they build with bailout Dollars to import back to the U.S. Airplanes? Not the big ones used for long distance flights. The tonnage China mentioned were for regional travel. Some planes have a life of 10-20 years, so this will only affect planes meant for 3-5 year deliveries from now out and not what was already ordered before tariffs. Simply put, China can't win this. The U.S. can do without Chinese crap, but China can't do without American food products and uber-tech equipment. Their people will revolt when the price of their soy sauce doubles and the price of their pork chops triples. |

When will the world effect the market enough to pull the rug out... and it seems pretty close because all the signs are there. Anyone can do math and compare 2008. This will not be 2008, this will be Great Depression, followed by WAR. Sure MSM is only reporting "correction" and "Trade War" and other typical economic indicator bullshit. Quoting: Pole Cat Who here thinks this will escalate into a full blown trade war? Last one was in the 30's... interesting times indeed. something is wrong with their ears. I hear you loud and fucking clear. 5:5 I swear most guys watch the stock market like it's a football game and there are scores and they can shake their fists in the air. Not even considering that The Great Depression 1929 to the late 1930's. History repeats, all the signs are there, 1 million immigrants unemployed and more on the way, most families with less than $5000 savings living paycheck to paycheck, falling profits. Signs that we are ok, unemployment figures (not accurate because people gave up on the job market, companies went to part time and hire twice as many which fucks up the numbers), interest rates (climbing super slow because this spooks the market, what if this will be the final straw?) and solid stocks making up the DOW (these are companies that will not fail until the last minute). The Second Great Depression could easily sneak up on the US if there are terrorism attacks on US soil (very possible as soon as Salman gets home next week) and if worldwide "allies" decide to pull the plug. interesting times indeed. |
