Re: Where to move from CA
depends on the reason for leaving OP - if you want jobs - Nebraska was recently ranked #4 in unemployment - see Fox news.

if its iDEOLOGY you are upset with in your state - DONT come to Texas. we did so almost 10 years ago for a better life because i was upset with ideology in CA - i feel i was lied to on multiple fronts. i did my homework too - i researched and looked up things i had heard in the news and texas was grossly mis represented. come they said - we have jobs they said. they NEVER at anytime said they were low income fast food jobs. with that being said - to be fair to texas as a state the state leadership is Republican, but the local leadership in the major cities San Antonio, Houston, Dallas are all DEMOCRATS.

if your a drinker - some states have sunday laws when it comes to liquor - hold overs from prohibition. you cannot buy liquor or alcohol on Sunday so if you want it you have to buy it the day before. I Believe this is in effect for Utah, and some of the deep south states though i couldnt tell you exactly which ones. makes sense in states with a heavy religious bent.

the east coast states are mostly Democrat held - Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New York and have heavy Gun Control laws.

Re: Where to move from CA
Where in CA specifically are you moving from?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 76453027

I live in El Dorado Hills, about 30 minutes east of Sacramento. I'm 46, ex-military, own a Tavor-SAR and LWRC AR15 as well as a few handguns. I live in a "Red county", county that is CCW friendly and I have a permit.

I have been to Idaho and am probably more conservative and freedom loving than most locals. Southern Idaho is starting to grow on me.
 Quoting: Solid Soul

I lived in Sacramento for 10 years, then moved to Orange County for 2 years. Moved away from California last year to northern Idaho. Here's part of the reason why.

Here is more reason to consider northern Idaho:

As a native Californian I was concerned that I would not be able to handle the cold, but now after my first winter I can honestly say it hardly bothered me at all. There are several factors involved. One is that as a retired person I can pick and choose when to leave my home. Another is that cold and snow tends to keep lazy liberals away. Thirdly, the snow up here is dry and pretty, and winter turned out to be a very quiet and restful period of time, in the same way that a good night's sleep is rejuvenating. Lastly, a snowy winter is a very small price to pay to live among so many patriots. The only liberal I have (knowingly) met up here is a college teacher transplant from southern Idaho, who apologizes each time she refers to her belief in global warming.

Another thing to know is that the weather is much better in northern Idaho than southern Idaho, especially our little banana belt area near the Canadian border. Protected by mountains on all sides and lower elevation than Boise area. Also Boise has liberals. There may be some liberals up north here, but they know to keep their mouth shut as they are severely outnumbered. After a lifetime of searching, I finally found a place where I feel at home. Please watch the videos.

Stay there and fix your damn problems.

You're no different than Mexicans who pour into the U.S. because they won't stay and fight for their freedom, rights, health, wellness, prosperity, etc.

How many of you so-called conservatives raised liberal children that moved to California to further screw up the state? Seems like it must be a lot because most of the people that have been in California since the 1980s or before are solid conservatives

Wisconsin

I have to agree and I'm Alaskan born Montanan. West central Wisconsin has tons of jobs, affordable housing, fantastic hunting and fishing. The land is fertile. The people mostly white of northern Europe stock. Tons of small towns and rural living. Been here 20 years...never been harassed by police, fish and game DNR, etc. I've never felt free-er anywhere else and I've been all over the US.

I'm thinking about leaving CA for reasons too numerous to list. Thinking Idaho....I was thinking Oregon but it's turning into CA 2.0 so fuck that. Any ideas. I was thinking Texas too.

Thank you

Re: Where to move from CA
Having grown up in Montana and panhandle of Idaho...they don't want you. The influx of people is greater than available housing and the jobs are seasonal service jobs that cater to rich tourists. Houses cost 3 or four times they do elsewhere. An acre lot in a resort area will cost 75k to 100K. Just the lot. If you aren't concerned about finances and no longer need to generate income, that's one thing, but if you need to work for an income, Idaho and Montana are poor choices for semi skilled young adults and people with kids. Meth and Heroin is epidemic and burglary crimes are high compared to the actual population. In the Flathead valley NW MT, no matter what it is, if it isn't locked down tight in a well lit area, meth heads will steal it. The Flathead Valley is now a shithole surrounded by natures beauty because of all the dirt bags streaming in from CA.,WA, Or.

I just got my MT drivers license and the DMV had a map of the USA on the wall with pins stuck in it to show where new residents had moved from. Most of the pins on the Map were stuck in San Francisco bay area CA, Portland Or, and Puget sound WA.

Re: Where to move from CA
Everyone I know is ditching to Idaho, Texas, and a couple to Arizona - rough because you are stuck inside with the A/C so much and hard to get outdoors unless you live at elevation, like the mountains, but they have some serious storms in their mountains, lots of lightning strikes. Many went to Colorado, but most came back to Cali - too much weather. Those who went to Idaho had a hard time if they were not near the city centers, and hated winter's long dreary blah and the snow shoveling and such. We get spoiled in Cali. I would choose Texas, if I could find a decent spot, but the medical is hard to get there unless you find a really good job. Some areas are not so great, some are better.

Re: Where to move from CA
Check out Raton, NM

25 miles from the Colorado border, 6000 miles high up in the mountains

Home to the NRA's Whittington Center. Ten percent of the 33,300-acre site has been developed to include fifteen shooting ranges, an administration building, a cafeteria, a museum, a library, classrooms, and full-service hookups for 175 recreational vehicles. The remainder of the site provides wildlife habitat at elevations above 6,300 feet (1,900 m) with primitive campgrounds and remote back-country cabins for hunting, bird watching, wildlife viewing, photography, hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding.

Looks like beautiful country

Re: Where to move from CA
CA native here. I moved a decade ago to New Mexico and NEVER LOOKED BACK. In CA, i lived in a 900 sq ft apt(bay area) - $80k a year --- paycheck to paycheck... just a shit life. Couldnt take the traffic anymore.... NOTHING IN CALIFORNIA IS WORTH THE TAXES, TRAFFIC AND COST OF LIVING IN GENERAL. NOTHING!

Here in NM, we have more sunny days than CA. We live in a beautiful custom 2500 sq ft house, on an acre...mortgage of $1125... in a booming, safe, primarily white and native Hispanic population -- i havent heard a spanish accent at a drive thru in YEARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I make the more now than in CA and it goes 3x as far!! No debt. Outdoor toys galore. RV. Savings in the bank. Stress level ----- zero.

Coming from the rat race in CA does give us an edge here in NM, business wise, because CA has a higher level of work ethic and standard in the corporate world. Sad but true. So keep that in mind, in NM...if you are coming from corporate CA.... you will be a rockstar here. I climbed to an executive position in less than 2 years. LOL

My family will never leave CA though -- doesnt matter the stress and lack of funds makes them nothing more than slaves to their bills -- so indefinitely, i will continue to field calls about how miserable everyone is in CA, while simultaneously loading my RV and heading to the mountains for relaxing weekend staycations. ;)

That's my experience too. They claim to be conservative but that's in comparison to far left California. It's like being a socialist around hard line communists. Both are collectivist hive people but the socialist hasn't yet found his inner ak47, so he thinks he is conservative.

Californians...
You will NOT fit in anywhere else if you are from the populated cities, as, goody for you, they are unique shitholes without compare.

So just stay there in Cali!

We DO NOT want or NEED you in the Inland NW!

You will not make it through our average winter!

Stay put, and lie in the bed you have made!

I can smell the Cali stench clear through the interwebs!

Pheww! You stink! Cali go home!!
