This happens long BEFORE the Book of Revelation comes into play.
The West must destroy itself and its technology, so that Israel stands alone in the Middle East.

This will:
A) Cause Israel to turn to God (for protection) and to rebuild the Temple.
B) Embolden Israel's enemies to attack them.

(Which leads to the first war with Israel, which causes the 7 year Peace treaty to be made, which the AntiChrist later breaks (second War, captures Jerusalem) and then defiles the Temple, leading to Christ's return..)

C) The technology of Today must be gone, as these battles are fought with Medieval weapons.
(See Ezekiel 39:10 "'Then those who live in the towns of Israel will go out and use the weapons for fuel and burn them up--the small and large shields, the bows and arrows, the war clubs and spears. For seven years they will use them for fuel.") You don't gather up parts of Planes, tanks, rifles, etc and burn them for firewood and it specifically spells out what was gathered up.

D) The Power vacuum crated by the West's Influence being removed, will allow the Anti Christ to assemble the 10 Kings or nations of Revelation 17:12, under his Leadership and to use them to wage war against Israel.

So you see, we have a long way to go yet.
