I wouldn't call myself a prepper because that would be an insult to preppers. I'd like to be prepared for 2 weeks to a month. That gets you thru the first wave of die offs.

My bucket from Legacy Foods was waiting for me when I got home, however. They had a decent sale on their 56 serving Pasta bucket so I decided to pick one up (sold out for now). $100 for what should last me 2 weeks in a pinch.

Not really an advocate of the Wise/Legacy/Mountain House freeze dried foods. but they do have some advantages. Good for on the move meals, 25+ year expiration dates, and simplicity. Just add water.

None of it is real cheap, however. Beans, rice, home canned stuff you can rotate and eat as daily meals is a better option of you are set up for it and really committed. I'm not.

That depends on the nuclear war. There were people who survived Nagaski and Hiroshime.

My cousin married a Japanese woman whose father was blown blocks away from his home in Hiroshima. He, like many others, then made the journey to Nagasaki. Then, Nagasaki got bombed.

There are people who survived both bombings.

Large scale, total nuclear war isn't something I would want to prep for, but if a solar flare hits, an EMP pulse knocks out our power grid, or some immense natural disaster (supervolcano) occurs (and these things have and will happen at some point) why not have a bit of an edge to survive for a month or six?

I don't do full-on prepper stuff, but it doesn't really hurt to be prepared for our spoiled and comfortable status quo being interrupted.
