Yes I worked in an office for 5 years, one day I just couldn't take it anymore and just didn't show up one day. The worst part was all the bullshit concern from fake people who never gave a shit about me while I worked there trying to convince me to come back. It did kinda suck to not get a reference after all that time tho :(

Several times...employers will fuck you over just as fast, even if they were blowing smoke up your ass the day before.

Once my coworker called me and said "hey, so and so manager was wondering...are you ever coming back to work?" I said "no." He said "I didn't think so."

Never just went MIA, but a douche boss told me one day "You're only giving me 60% today" ... I replied "Well, now you have 0%", and walked. He was calling my name as I kept walking, heard he was fired a couple months later, still never went back.

This reminded me that the douchde whom I called out company wide in an email quite the following week.

It seems three female coworkers took offense I was released for my truth; they told him if he didn't quit they would report him to HR saying he was sexually harassing them and that his wife would not take kindly to it.

He left with his 'tail' between his legs; they invited me to lunch to share their success.

My workday is sometimes 6:00 AM to 7:45 PM, the taxpayers get far more in return than I am paid.

It's something about a 'work ethic'.

Re: Has anyone quit a job by just going MIA?
Many times, but here is the one I have with a twist:

I worked some shitty job during college and had been there for 2 years, so I had no plans on leaving until after finishing school. One random Friday night, my friend threw a party at her house that lasted for 2 weeks. Yes, a 2 week party. During that epic time, I was a no-call/no-show at work because, well, I was just too fucked up and having too much fun partying. Once the haze had worn off, I assumed I was fired and stressed about needing to find another job at some point. But then I got an idea...after those 2 weeks, I just showed up back at work and started working like nothing was wrong with being MIA for weeks. A puzzled co-worker asked, “You still work here?” I acted equally puzzled as though the question was unfounded. The manager never said a word about it to me - just that one sentence from that one co-worker. Go figure.

I did today. Where I live, employees are expendable, so employers don’t care if people walk out because they aren’t properly trained, the medical benefits are too expensive, people stand around all day, or the company down the road has great benefits and pays almost $3 more on the hour for the same type of work. To hell with shit jobs.

Once when my boss told me I had to work the holiday, so I didn't complain, figured thems the breaks. My whole family left for the big family party without me. When I got to work he said, "Oh woops, I told the new girl to work today. I won't need you."

Never returned, never said why, never picked up my last check, never used his business, never saw his ugly mug again.

Yup. When I did a stint of bartending, I worked for a real douchebag. He was condescending fuckstick that no one liked.

His wedding was coming up and he asked if I could work that night as there would be a lot of people at the restaurant. I said "Sure!"

Never showed up. Asshole went out of business within that year.

You don't need brains to be a Boss.

When the body was first created, all the parts wanted to be Boss. The brain said, "I should be Boss because I control all of the body's responses and functions."

The feet said, "We should be Boss since we carry the brain about and get him to where he wants to go."

The hands said, "We should be the Boss because we do all the work and earn all the money."

Finally, the asshole spoke up. All the parts laughed at the idea of the asshole being the Boss. So, the asshole went on strike, blocked itself up and refused to work.

Within a short time, the eyes became crossed, the hands clenched, the feet twitched, the heart and lungs began to panic, and the brain fevered. Eventually, they all decided that the asshole should be the Boss, so the motion was passed. All the other parts did all the work while the Boss just sat and passed out the shit!

Re: Has anyone quit a job by just going MIA?
I had this prick of an owner of a local business treat me and other employees like dog shit constantly.

I noticed at first my paycheck was smaller than it should have been. I had all my hours written down that I worked. Found out that he was subtracting time from our work hours and paying us less. I took the timesheets from his desk one day and photocopied them all for proof.

It was a really small business with only like 4 employees. The one girl only worked like 2 times a month and another kid was part time because he was in high school still.

Myself and and the full time girl were the main slaves at this job. I told her about the timesheet skimming and she was too scared to confront the asshole so I did it. He acted all dumb like it was an accident but I had proof that he did this on purpose because of the photocopies I made with his handwriting on there indicating how he was doing it.

The next week he paid me for the missing time but not the other girl. He did shady shit all the time to save money and I didn't agree with it.

Finally what caused me to want to leave was this lazy broad who "worked" 2x a month was with me on the weekend shifts a few times in a row.

The first time I worked with her I noticed she did nothing. She literally sat in the chair in the back room and played on her phone while I did all the work. I was pissed and she wouldn't help or even answer the business phone line.

So I confronted the owner about it and told him to fire her for not working. He said no and berated me instead.

The next weekend I was scheduled again with this lazy biznitch and the owner was supposed to go out of state for some reason. I was like screw this, I'm not working while she sits on her fat ass and gets paid. So I never showed up. The owner called me like 50 times begging me to call back and come to the store. I ignored him.

Fast forward a week or so later I never got paid my last check. I was angry and knew he did that on purpose to force me into the store.

I emailed him and said I reported him to the state for holding my money illegally. He gave excuses and told me I need to return my work shirt. I mailed it to him in the small box I could find all wrinkled up and smelly.

After I told him I contacted the state and reported him he had my check within a couple of days in my mailbox.

Best thing I've ever done in that regard.

I've mostly had trouble with women is positions of power within a company. The last one was this dyke bitch. I wont go into detail because it does bring the rage to a boil. Same with the other bitches who I've left work because I was tired of all their shit. All it takes is one bad apple to ruin the bunch, and I'd of loved to shit in their coffee/cereal/desk/shoe just to show my displeasure.

But, the main reason I went missing, rather than address my complaint is the fact when I explode, I feel bad afterwards. I don't like sinking down to their level, and when I sink, I go lower than anyone else, striking from a place of such underhandedness, it makes me feel dirty afterwards. But I get my point across, such a red hot, molten heated point that it tends to flay the mind, and sear the soul of the person in question.

And I just don't like hurting people, even if they hurt me, and its only verbal, emotional, psychological abuse. I will walk away, letting them go their own way, because I know who will pay them back. I know who will take revenge, and it is not me, but the Lord our God.

5 years ago, I finally had run out of patience with my older (mid 60's) overweight, fugly, conniving, condescending and vindictive female paperwork supervisor. I was in my early 20's when I started the job. She hated me from day one. She criticized how I went about completing paperwork no matter what. She even complimented coworkers that did their paperwork the same way I did, in front of my face, knowing she had just scolded me. I finally replied to her complaining session one day by saying, 'I know you hate me and I just don't care anymore'. That REALLY pissed her off!

I thought everything would blow over because she was retiring that year. But, I didn't attend her retirement gathering and to get back at me she spent her final two weeks setting me up (behind my back). She made up issues of 'concern' and presented them to my boss... she twisted things to the point that she accused him of being attracted to me if he didn't believe her. No man wants to be accused of sexual advances in this day in age.

After she was gone, I ended up confronted with all of these things and realized she had provided him with a carefully crafted narrative. I was so stunned and frustrated that when my boss suggested I leave for the day and then take a week so he could look things over.... I told him I was making my own file and not coming back. They tried to bribe me not to take legal action against them... I didn't return their calls to say whether I would or not. So I held out on them and just kept getting paid for 4 months.

The old lady was bragging, before she left, about celebrating her retirement with her husband taking her on a cruise. Somehow she discovered he planned on throwing her overboard. She filed for divorce and went to the police... Not sure what came of it. All I know is that I would've stood up for him if he did do that. She was the one byatch that deserved an eternal swim w/the sharks!

Re: Has anyone quit a job by just going MIA?
When I was between Junior and Senior year in high school, I wound up not showing up to my job at McDonald's for 3 days. I was doing well there by all accounts, and, because I had over a B average, I was allowed to "work the window" (run the cash register), which is considered a good thing.

Well, after wearing the polyester suits, and, really not getting any hours for the first almost month after I was hired, I decided to quit after my first week.

To be fair, the people were nice there and I was being a brat kid, wanting to see what it would take to get fired, which isn't a work ethic I would want to show to my family now that I'm an adult.

I was told after talking with my manager that I'd "never be able to work at a McDonald's again." I was OK with that fork in the road in my career.

Re: Has anyone quit a job by just going MIA?
When I was 23 I worked for an Italian Leather Importer in the Interior Design business in Manhattan (NYC) in sales. This was in the late 70's on 5th Avenue and across the street from the famous 666 Fifth Avenue address (Top of the Sixes). Anyway, the owner was way too neurotic for me. Even though we had some high roller clientele like Burt Reynolds who purchased a $25,000 sectional leather sofa from us in Forest Green (which netted me a substantial commission), I decided I could no longer drag myself into work everyday so I called Western Union and sent him a telegram stating that I "was unable to return to work". Cowardly BUT Effective! I was now Unemployed. He tried to call me and offer me my job back but I just didn't answer the phone. Now this was a landline, no voicemail, no caller ID, mind you. I just did not answer the phone for like a week. Sometimes you just gotta get the hell outta there! LOL

My son is a residential painting contractor in high end homes...worked his way up to having his own business. He needed a 2nd employee and hired someone on a 30 day trial. (30 days to find out if he told the truth about what he said he knew)started @ $15/ hour with a $2 raise after the 30 day trial...He was hired.

After 3 months the guy went MIA, didn't return my sons calls but 'called for his last check'...The fuck filed for unemployment. My son got the paperwork and replied to the unemployment office that 'he quit'...

Dumb ass quit a 17/hr job. with promises of raises every 3 months.

F-er just works long enough to 'try' to collect unemployment...

the update - asshole was turned down for unemployment.

PS. I also was a painting contractor. My son worked for my boss. We both turned out to be very picky with the finished product.

I didn't go MIA with my boss but, he was a pain in the ass that I left to start my own business.

some kind of cheap furniture factory in Texas when I was in between jobs, they made me the shipping clerk
when I stapled the tag on, the "furniture" cracked and broke

Went to lunch first and last day and went home, lol

Working in the 32nd company now. Shortest time employed was 5h.

I hate working, but also hate welfare.
Doing a 24/h week since 5 years now.

Walked from a 16 year job through the maintenance door, never said bye,it became so stressful I didn’t care for vacation time earned after those years which was the only thing to miss. Best decision I ever done, it was an industrial job and those are abundant in this area. Landed in another one without the Aholes. After I left and people find out I made it outside, they started leaving too,now that company is a mess about to go out of business.

I'm currently still on a "smoke break" at a local shithole restruant.. been 8-10yrs now. They called every few hours for 3days straight until they figured out I was gone.. Checked my voicemail a month later to hear "please come on back and talk to us" lol

Haha. I'm technically still on jury duty from a restaurant job 30 years ago!

Idk about other states but employers in California are not allowed to ask your previous jobs on your job performance, salary, or attendance; and, they can only ask if you’ve worked there on the dates you’ve stated.

So I don’t even give 2 weeks notice if I’m quitting unless the supervisor/manager was competent and efficient
