Oklahoma House passes ‘Constitutional Carry’ gun bill (No Permit Needed!)

Constitutional carry is the right to carry, concealed or open. We have had our Constitutional right to carry in Wyoming for several years. We can carry concealed without a permit, with few restrictions. Having a permit lets you carry a few places that are not allowed without it. The only good reason to have a Wyoming carry permit is the reciprocity with other states. With a permit, you can also carry in all the red states, and some of the blue states.

States should not need a law to say citizens can exercise their Constitutional rights! That unfortunately is not how it works today, so I pray for the people of Oklahoma. Every state needs to affirm their citizens right to keep and bear arms. Contrary to what the liberal media says, Constitutional carry reduces crime dramatically. Criminals prefer unarmed victims.

Think of everyone open carrying, no terrorist would try and start anything. This will become one of the safest States in the Union to live....

We passed Constitutional Carry a couple years back in Maine. And kept our right to buy firearms from our neighbor as long as we are over 21, a resident of Maine, and and have not committed a felony. It has worked out great for the state and its people. Hope all states pass this law and we have reciprocity bill to back it too.

We in AZ have been enjoying constitutional carry for many years now. The only reason I bothered to get A. CCW here is reciprocity with other states.

99.999% of the people who open carry are law abiding citizens who would gladly hand over their gun to an officer should the situation require it.100% of the people who are out there killing people are hiding their gun(s) until their crime is completed.

As a resident of Oklahoma I have to say that I fully support this bill!

The process to attain a permit at the moment is a tad silly. I suspect that it is more about the money made than being sure that those carrying are qualified. There is very little on gun safety during class or range testing which is what most new shooters really needed. There is some information on legalities but most should be common sense. What's more, none of the steps in the process would have weeded out a potential criminal who did not have previous convictions on a variety of crimes, a background check at the time of firearm purchase is far more inclusive. It's time that bills of this nature are passed nationwide to allow law abiding, responsible citizens to defend themselves and loved ones from those that would do harm!

Senate Bill 1212 would allow anyone who owns a gun to carry it without a permit.

"We ought to be able to carry any gun whether we are licensed or not.' Doesn't the Supreme Court contradict that 'cause it's not actually a right?" said Rep. Collin Walke.

Supporters say better efforts are need to screen potential gun buyers, but that shouldn't punish current gun owners.

"Would it surprise you that the majority that have committed heinous crimes either have mental health conditions or the background checks have not been followed up? We're failing on that end. We need to concentrate on that end and not hinder our law-abiding citizens," said Rep. Justin Humphreys.

I think that this quote here explains why some don't want this bill and it has nothing to do with the safety of citizens.

At this time (legally) we need a permit to carry either concealed or openly. Obviously this is not constitutional but with this bill our constitutional rights that have been infringed upon will be legally reinstated. The fact that there is a need to reinstate them is unconstitutional to begin with. Those rights should never have been tampered with.

I just watched a speech by Mary Taylor who's running for governor of Ohio and she said she will sign it if it hits her desk....
