In short, what happened is the US asked Russia if there were Russian soldiers in the units being considered for target. The Russians replied, No. There were Russians, but they were contractor mercenaries. The US then proceeded to hit them. Russia got pissed, but they stayed silent to save face as their card had already been played.

The only thing is that payback is a bitch, and the US frequently uses contractors too.....

Yes, but AC 78217190 is bumping threads showing the US has killed Russian troops (that didn't clear out when the US warned them AHEAD OF TIME) to somehow justify that the Russians placed a bounty on US troops.
