Speedqueen is ideal, but they tend to charge for it now that everyone knows about it.
Amana has some cheap washing machine options for a simple machine with a real agitator. And is made in the US.
I bought one a few years ago at Home Depot and love it. It also cleans better and much faster than the big fancy machine it replaced. Actually I kept the big Cabrio platinum hooked up as well, for when I want to wash a huge bed comforter. It works, but the cycle is about twice as long as the Amana, and lacking a proper agitator, it doesn't clean very well. But it does have an enormous capacity.
My gas dryer has never had a problem in 26 years of usage. Bought it in 1995. Kenmore. Well, I did have to clean the lint out from around the insides 2 years ago.
Probably worth it to make sure your machines are on a surge protector if they have a lot of delicate electronics that you want to keep working. Cheap Chinese capacitors (and maybe some resistors and MOSFETs), tend to fail from minor voltage spikes.
