Hawaii Tracker Nightly Update - 8:10pm 9/4/2018

"Fissure 8 - Lava continues to pool inside the crater of Fissure 8 today. The lava pond has been present for 5 days now, but has not changed much during that time. The level of the lava inside the vent of Fissure 8 has gradually risen over the last few days; however, there is no lava flow at this time. Harry Durgin and John Stallman returned to the ‘Y’ tonight to monitor the glow from Fissure 8. Their report is that incandescence has dropped below visible levels from the mouth of the cinder cone, only able to be detected via a long exposure camera. The pulsing seen in lava pond last night is gone now as well. USGS reports that SO2 levels around Kīlauea remain very low, and have risen only a small bit with the recent lava pond. There are currently no indications that the eruption is going to resume at this time. Seismicity and ground tilt show no signs of further activity in the past 24 hours..."
